Does anyone know if #RedStarOS supports #DVD playback?
If it does, I could do something really funny.

@krutonium @frameworkcomputer Propably some shitty #lightweight #Linux like #PorteusKiosk "Cloud" Edition or something, with more #Govware than #BarretBrown had to endure...

There's a single North Korean steam gamer, LMAO!

@mrmasterkeyboard @QuickMuffin8782 still, I'd be wary about #RedStarOS!
@mrmasterkeyboard I hope this is a #shitpost, not a real setup, because #RedStarOS is literally the #GovwareOS:

Using #RedStarOS Server 3.0 on a #VirtualMachine to SSH into my server and my main computer.
Yes, I know this sounds like a horrible idea, but I live for the danger.
I've noticed that most of the material I see online pertaining to Red Star OS only really covers version 3.0 Desktop. I get that it's the most well known one, but let's go down this bizarre rabbit hole a little further!
So I've got Red Star OS 2.0 and 3.0 Server VMs up and running. I had to also airgap the 3.0 Server VM because it tried encroaching on the host and I had to NOPE it out. But there's gonna be some juicy research to be had for a future talk!
All right, I've decided.
PhreakNIC is gonna get the #RedStarOS talk this year.
Let's keep pissing Kim Jong-Un off.
1,982 words written on an article about Red Star OS, that cursed and weird North Korean Linux distro I somehow know too much about!
Sending it to @2600 very soon!
1,729 words written so far for my Red Star OS article for @2600.
CCC walked so I can run.
Let the information get out there!
Nostalgia lens is a hell of a drug. I used to think #macOS Catalina was ugly as hell, yet now people are longing for Catalina instead of the current design we got past Big Sur.
I still think the Snow Leopard design is the goat - to the point that I think North Korea's #RedStarOS #Linux distro based on a really old version of #KDE Plasma, tailored to mimic Snow Leopard to a tee looks incredible lol.
In about 10 minutes, I'm gonna do my second #livestream on Twitch. The topic for this stream is an overview of #RedStarOS, both the server as well as the desktop version.
We are gonna discover what secrets RedStarOS holds for us!

I do want to give my #RedStarOS talk again at SummerCon next year, but what I think would make it even better is if I could get my hands on a copy of Red Star OS 4.0 for research.
The only information I found so far about it comes from four articles written in NKEconomy, a South Korean newspaper that reports on North Korean affairs, that were linked on Betawiki:
https://betawiki.net/wiki/Red_Star_OS_4.0
Namely, Red Star OS 4.0 includes VirtualBox (likely 6.1, judging from release of the OS and VBox corresponding), Sowang Office (their (originally) OpenOffice rebranding, and now likely LibreOffice based office suite) can open MS Office files (again, LibreOffice has improved Office compatibility), Firefox (which they rebranded as Naenara ("My Country" in Korean) and added some sneaky tracking and pinging of POST and GET requests to it), and keychain-based password management. I really wanna see this up close and research it more.
Let's see if we can make Kim Jong-Un mad again and leak Red Star OS 4.0 out!
Time for some shitposting!
My talk about Red Star OS that I did for @jawncon last week is now available on their YouTube channel! Come watch me live dangerously and teach everyone about a Linux distro from an oppressive regime that's full of bluster and easily defeatable security!
Friends! In less than 2 weeks is @jawncon 0x1, and I'm hyped to give my #RedStarOS talk and see all the other talks and hang out with my Philly homies!
Let's all make Kim Jong-Un mad by hacking his OS! :hackers_town:
Red Star OS only has bash 3.1.7 by default? Noooo, that won't do at all!
Grab source for bash 4.4.18, compile and install, and now neofetch works, *and* it recognizes Red Star OS!
This is gonna be one very wild demo come October!
Wanna come see the most cursed as fuck Linux distro ever, #RedStarOS, at #defcon32? I'm at the food court! Come say hello to the townies and see Pyongyang Racer in action! :hackers_town:
OMG! So this PoC is working.
So what I've learned so far. A lot of #DPRK websites are either powered by #PHP 5.6.2 or 7.4, with either an #Apache or #nginx webserver in front of it. Unsurprisingly some (if not all) are running #RedStarOS as their main operating system.
There is one notable exception, which is using #Express and #NextJS. Which is the website of the #PyongyangTimes newspaper.
Okay, Chooms! One other pair of tools I need for #RedStarOS... I can use vbindiff to see hex differences between files (especially when it comes to showing how Red Star OS watermarks files that pass through it normally), but I also need a good hex editor that will allow snipping of data or files where I can grab the watermark (which is AES encrypted data) and try feeding that data through a decrypting tool to see what's actually in the watermark.
Anyone have a good recommendation for a Linux hex editor that can do what I need?
