Wow. Here's a gem of an old website that somehow still exists out there.

Finally time to release that PHP website hit counter I wrote for my retro site after freewebsitehitcounters went down. A graphical hit counter with infinite customization: GTTFCount https://codeberg.org/Chasnah/gttfcount
VOD Live! Here's the #RetroWebSpelunking stream from April 19th (my birthday!)
We explored colors, an amazing Diddy Kong Racing fan site, Family Guy fan content, Homestar's new cartoon, and more!

Celebrate my #Birthday tomorrow at 6PM Central with a 90s Retro Website livestream!!
https://youtube.com/live/ZsfwMLCAhuo
These are my favorite streams tbh, we just load up a bunch of real, old, and frankly real-old websites that are funny, famous, weird, or just fascinating!

Love the not-new feeling of this site.
Didn't even bother with HTTPS either.

Also note that home.html in link, they even have a landing page! (when going directly to root of domain). (I skipped that bc I know so many aren't even gonna click on the dang thing to enter and see more)
Ce menu de navigation est une pépite, 2001 nous revoilà ! 😻

This was a fun watch.
I can't help but think that projects like Retro Gaiden and 199x.chat are almost like spiritual successors to the sort of culture & communities that arose within BBSes: decentralized, self-hosted, free from big tech influence.

Just found this epic channel! This was quite entertaining :doge_cool: Part of me really hates that I missed the golden age of BBS.
Fun find: https://marginalia-search.com/
it's a search engine designed to find niche things rather than what's most popular
* has filters for blogs, forums, smallweb, and it doesnt hide stuff just for being old
* really good for finding community made stuff and hobbyist stuff
* prioritises non commercial content
It's really a different use case entirely to things like google, but has so much more interesting content not just generic seo made articles

Good morning, fellow geekies with impeccable taste! Happy Thursday!
I love their HTTP-only website with its space-themed background, animated horizontal rule, visitor counter, and all the classic 90s Geocities Home Page vibes (It is missing "Built with Notepad" and "Download Netscape" buttons) http://thecybertronicspree.com/

Reminder: If you have a website you can put my 88x31 banner on it if you like!!

Let's be a web ring again!
People in #WebDev and #FrontEnd #Design for at least a few years will remember Icon Fonts. But are you old enough to remember #CSS sprite sheets?

There is a gopher client available on the App Store.
I keep having this seed of an idea of a #federated web where people could have websites but in an ecosystem where commerce was not allowed or able to be removed/moderated.
I miss the early days of the #Internet where hobbiests had sites about things they were passionate about and despise the slow absorption of anything unique into walled gardens.
Maybe a federated #dns of sites?
I don't know what it would look like but I yearn to see it.
Tonight we're streaming a bunch of 90s Holiday themed websites from archive.org or just the live web! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOnNWsDh-uc
These are my least marketable but most enjoyable streams for me personally, so check it out if you like!
