We rolled from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata on NH-316A and NH-16 crossing great river plains of eastern India — Baitarani, Subarnarekha, Hooghly. Flat land, old myths, living history, and roads that quietly carried us to the end of our India overlanding journey.

I got one step closer to resolving our DMV issues today. The next steps cost more money though!

We need $60-300 for the immediate DMV matters (I cannot elaborate too much on it here for opsec).

We also need food money and repair money for the car ($20) and the bus's engine (depends).

We need a towing dolly to pull our car around ($400-2000)

Our #roadsafety need for a #tyrechange on the #Vulpibus is getting critical. The #tyres the bus came with are from 2012, worn and developing cracks. They are #inflated to the 115psi they are supposed to have, but a #blowout is becoming a matter of when, not if. Since we would rather not end up stranded in a ditch, this is an ASAP #urgent call out for #mutualaid. It's gonna be about $1200 because at least the front 2 tyres have to be new. The back 4 can be used, though getting new is obviously better.

A worthy weekend was spent in the service of Subterranean Manifestation III; an uncompromising all-day assault of Death, Black and especially War Metal in the capital. With the show itself magnificently arranged by Subterranean Promotions, I was drafted in for the essential duty of delivering the artists to and from the airport and venue.

Driving the Teutonic triumvirate of Thorybos, Death Worship and Bloody Vengeance may seem daunting to some, but they were all gentlemen to the last. With many miles clocked over multiple journeys, much convivial conversation was shared along the way – and a fair few post-show beverages once I’d done my part.

Absolute respect to organisers Laszlo and Stephanie for curating such a cracking lineup and keeping it all running smooth. It’s always a pleasure to work with these fine people, and I’m proud to have been part of the team.

Scattered sparsely along the A1 and elsewhere, OK Diners are a reasonably recent addition to the roadside repast. Offering a British take on the American Diner experience, the kitsch 1950s decor is matched with piped Rock ‘n’ Roll and a sense of novelty nostalgia.

Behind the neon and chrome facade, a sincere wholesomeness pervades the chain. With a warm welcome and waitress service, (worthy of an extra tip); food is affordable, cooked fresh, and accompanied by bottomless beverages. A world (and time) apart from the dehumanising touchscreens and rushed franchise overload of the motorway megasites.

As miles melt into memories after another wild weekend, I find myself drawn to waystations such as these to hitch my wanton heart awhile.
