What is the best way to listen to music from locally (on the client running the browser, not the server)?

This thread (github.com/orgs/music-assistan) mentions a built-in web player, but I couldn’t find it. Is this in ? AirPlay to macOS would be another option, but that didn’t work for me.

The next best option seems to be . It works out of the box. Still wondering if that’s the best option. How do you handle this use case?

@justin at home, I run everything through #mopidy piped to #snapcast which sync output to my three rooms. At this point I've phased out my reliance on Spotify in favor of #selfhosted (Navidrome), bandcamp, and Pandora but many others still use the Spotify backend (easiest paired with Iris frontend and docker image).

I love Home Assistant and I'd really like to get going with Music Assistant. I've been using #Snapcast to synchronise my house related announcements across multiple rooms. Integrating this into Music Assistant would be the next natural step, but for whatever reason I find it notoriously hard to figure out how to configure Music Assistant to play any source on any device. I prefer listening to locally stored music. I am yet to play my first song via it.

Is it just me? 😃

Had a thought, and I've done a bit of research so it seems to be possible, but I'm having a bit of trouble putting the pieces together, so I'm gonna go ahead and tag this.

Apparently there is a way in
#Linux Pulseaudio to connect a bluetooth device (smartphone in this case) in such a way that you can play audio from the device to the Pulseaudio server. Okay, cool.

Now, is this still possible with a
#Pipewire server and pipewire-pulse?

Once I can figure that out, it should be relatively trivial to then send that stream to my
#Snapcast server, and then use it to supposedly stream audio from my phone to multiple rooms, which sounds really cool as a possibility without a system like Sonos!

Woo! The test of household radio stations is working! Patiobar to control Pianobar streaming over Snapcast, all running on the housebrain K3S cluster without any physical audio hardware. Now I just need to get the client pushed out around the house and build a control dash in HA. (And stand up 2 or 3 more 'stations' of course.)

@HNguyenLy use #Snapcast! Same multispeaker control features as #Sonos, but it’s open, it works on any device and speaker, and you can also implement your own client.

I knew that it was just a matter of time before the multispeaker solutions of Sonos and Bose went all the way in with enshittification.

@RolfBly not much but i use rss latest news podcasts in my #snapcast setup

@frehi Clients are raspberry pi's with hifiberry DACs which receive the audio from a central server through #snapcast. The central server hosts several music playing apps that pipe into the snapcast snapserver: a.o. librespot as Spotify connect client and mpd to serve local music and radio streams.

Finally my wakeup routine is stable. I set the time in #HomeAssistant and toggle the wakeup switch. Then at the set time the bedroom phone (and my mobile phone) ring. After awnsering the call a generated playlist is played trough the #snapcast speaker system.

1st any voicemail in my inbox. 2nd the 1st agenda item.
3rd the latest news flash from a local dutch radio station.

Then the playlist becomes idle and home assistant switches music back to a regulair stream.

#homeAssistant. Working on the #gui is always a side quest.

You get quick gains. But there are old things you never complete.

#snapcast mediaplayer and album art with quote if music is idle.

@joat

Absolutely agreed. And if you're a digital person like me, consider having local copies of your music and #selfhosting

I self-host my own (large) music collection, have whole-house audio, and can stream it anywhere there's a connection as well.

Powered by #linux, #mpd, and #snapcast .

trying to set up #Snapcast tonight before I go to bed and I'm going to give myself a headache.

realising if I can progress in my coding skills (and honestly if I can bring back some enthusiasm for it) the value I could provide might lie in packaging these things so they're easy to use.
