I run my own small kubernetes cluster at Hetzner. And I want to self host a bunch of static web sites. I looked for a solution, simple, cloud native, low on resource usage. It must auto-update from Git (branch) like git[hub|lab] pages.

And there is not such a solution.

So I wrote my own: CRD, Operator, Syncer and a Helm chart to glue all together with Nginx and Traefik. Simplicity first, as admin publishing a page its one StaticSite custom resource with 4 or 5 values set, done.
It comes with tests/lint for Go and Helm code, full CI untegration (including image build, helm release and docs build with Hugo).

I ChatGPTed a Python script to convert my blog post rendering to PDFs and added a link at the bottom of each post to download the PDF version. I first tried Quarto's native method, but PDFLaTeX doesn't support embedding WebP files. Or at least I couldn't figure out how to fix the WebP-related errors. So I had to build my system.

I've had a WordPress blog for many moons, and I'd like to start blogging again, but I'm done with WP.

What is your choice for static web generators that would work well (and hopefully easily import a WP blog)?

Every time I investigate, I get overwhelmed with options and give up.

I've had a career in tech, can work with whatever language necessary, and know my way around the command line but...

I want to occasionally post blog posts, not manage software updates, churn, or invest a ton in getting up to speed.

Something self hosted, stable, well used/understood, and (preferably) straight forward.

Thoughts?

@nina_kali_nina every time I start to use a static HTML generator, I think to myself, “OK, how am I going to make sure that my content will be convertible to HTML far into the distant future, and on a diverse range of possible computing platforms.” Then I think about how much I hate dealing with software dependencies and building software, which makes me immediately give up and write the HTML entirely by hand.

Does anyone know of an event style #11ty theme? I have a single page site now for my event that has a Hero section for a countdown to the event, some sections for about, FAQ, schedule.

What I have now is a python template I wrote to then create static files, and the whole site could use an update too. The site is a static site and really simple too, just looking for a fresh update.
