Had a takeaway delivered last night from a burger joint I'd not heard of previously.

The burger & fries weren't as hot as they could have been, but this was probably due to the delivery guy (on a bicycle apparently) doing another drop before mine.

My main conclusion, after trying a handful of different establishments, is that a burger is a burger is a burger.

They all use 'smash patties', the extras (cheese etc.) is mostly the same. The real difference, weirdly, comes in the fries, how they're seasoned etc.

My conclusion is that I should order from my local burger place (literally yards down the road) where I'll get roughly the same as all the other vendors, and due to it's proximity, it'll arrive hotter.

Yoooo... Tried Chick-Fil-A (Canada). I had really low expectations. Like how can you base your entire personality around a plain breaded chicken sandwich?

But the 'spicy' deluxe is actually spicy. I was surprised. Probably not worth waiting forever in their crazy line-ups... But on par with Wendy's Spicy Chicken Sandwich.

And yes I'm aware that they financially support anti-LGBTQ organizations and is doing away with their diversity hiring initiatives... Maybe slightly different on this side of the border tho?

I saw this for the first time in I want to say late 2011. I had been wanting to watch it again for years but could never find a platform, and finally I found that it was available for rent on Apple TV so I went ahead and purchased.

I love Chinese food. It will always be at the top of my list of preferred foods. Not very many other types of cuisine offers the same flavours and memories for me.

That said, Chinese food was a staple of my childhood. My grandmother used to reward us on Sunday evenings by taking us out to a lavish Chinese dinner because we made it through a long, church service.

I always looked forward to these dinners. Something ridiculous usually happened that offered a great deal of chuckles when it happened and continues to every time I think back on it.

Like the time my brother, barely eight years old, thought it was a good idea to chew on a coffee creamer cup. A cup that burst open as soon as his teeth made contact, coating the left side of my oblivious grandmother’s face with splotches of white, drippy coffee cream. She had no clue and when we locked eyes from across the table, she offered a goofy smile, beaming with love and filled to the brim with delicious Cantonese style chow mein.

Or the time when we caught my grandmother stuffing her purse with the restaurant’s silverware. Unbeknownst to us, my grandmother had a secret history of kleptomania and us catching her in the act wasn’t her first rodeo. She blamed the habit on the war.

All that said, if you ask me, Chinese food is king, and will always be king.
