The #enshittification at #Garmin continues apace. They've just taken the previously free integration between Garmin Connect and #MyFitnessPal, which allowed you to track what you eat in MFP and have the calories show up in the Garmin app, and moved it into their subscription "Connect+" service which costs $70/year.
Fuckers.
They think they're going to get more money from me, but in fact they've just eliminated my last reason to keep buying Garmin watches.

It got worse. I emailed #GEHA through their website and asked them to tell me which EOB I was just notified about since it wasn't indicated in the email and there was no way to tell from looking at the claims page on the website.
They responded: "Unfortunately, those emails are automated and we do not have access to see what claim is associated with the email that is being sent. We apologize for the confusion and inconvenience of this, sir."

I get this email today from Thrift Savings Plan (the 401k equivalent for federal employees).
It says I should "click on the red circle icon in the upper right-hand corner of [my] home screen," but there is no red circle icon in the upper right corner when I log in. It's yellow.
The "tsp.gov" link in the footer isn't clickable because they've written '<a href="tsp.gov">' instead of '<a href="https ://tsp.gov">' in the HTML source for the email.
Sheer incompetence.

Today, January 31, 2026, I received an email notification from my previous #healthInsurance company, #GEHA, notifying me that I had a new Explanation Of Benefits available on their website.
I have not been a GEHA member since March 2025.
The notification provided no details about the EOB.
I logged into their portal to find it. The EOB list doesn't show when EOBs were issued, so I had to open them one by one until I found the new one. (1/4)

Months after first reporting it, I'm still unable to view claims on my uncle's #healthInsurance portal. I've reported the problem multiple times and been told multiple times "we're working on it."
Today a rep called me: "The IT department says it's working fine for them so they asked me to check with you if it's still a problem."
I reamed her out and told her if they hadn't actually done anything to fix it then yes it's still a problem and I resent them wasting my time.

Last year I rolled over my uncle's #Fidelity managed 401k into an IRA. When I did the rollover distribution from Fidelity, it didn't tell me that any of the money in the distribution was post-tax. Afterward, the transactions that showed up in the transaction history also claimed that all of the money was pre-tax. I therefore rolled over all of the money into a traditional (non-Roth) IRA. I ordered two remanufactured toner cartridges for my #HP #printer. These are Staples-branded cartridges and the #Staples website claims they're compatible.
Today I tried to use them and the printer rejected them: bad chip.
It's bullshit that HP is still pulling this cartridge lock crap.
It's bullshit that Staples lied about the compatibility.
It's bullshit that because of these my printer is out of toner and the earliest I can get replacement cartridges is in three days.

The #Google #Pixel stock #Android weather app is very confused right now. At the top, it's displaying a winter storm warning saying 12–20 inches of snow. Lower down, it's claiming 0.05 total inches of snow for the day. It's also saying very little snow tomorrow and Tuesday. I'm mystified about what's going wrong here but find it kind of fascinating.
It is actively snowing and quite a bit of snow has already fallen, so "facts on the ground" also contradict the app.

After I factory reset my #TPLink #AX6000 router to fix routing issues, I left 4 features disabled that had previously been enabled: antivirus, QoS, SPI Firewall, and Airtime Fairness.
I made a note to myself: if the router's still working fine in a month, turn these features back on and see what happens.
I turned them back on yesterday, and the routing problems came back.
I experimented and narrowed it down to the "antivirus" "feature". 😡 So now I've turned that off for good.

This is what I see when I try to log into #GrubHub on my phone.
It tells me to "confirm that [I'm] not a robot" but offers me no instructions or guidance for how to do that.
I am able to log into the GrubHub website with the same username and password with no problem whatsoever.
I chatted with GrubHub support about this through the website and the only solution they offered was for me to use the website instead of my phone. That's bullshit and I told him so.

Screenshot of GrubHub app error screen. There's a cartoon drawing of a scooter with a flat tire. Below that it says "We've hit a roadblock". Below that it says "Confirm that you're not a robot and we'll get you back up and running in no time." Below that it says "Block ID:" but the actual Block ID is blurred to protect my privacy.

For days I've been trying to figure out what concrete steps I could take to help the protestors and observers in Minneapolis from afar.
Yesterday, I finally got an answer: there's a group buying and installing car dashcams for observers, and they have an Amazon wishlist. I don't like to do business with Amazon, but this is a good thing to make an exception for. (1/8)

Sony (PlayStation) sends email telling me there's something wrong with my payment information and I need to fix it or scheduled payments won't work.
This email looks every bit like phishing (they could have included the last four digits of the card number or told me what's wrong, but instead it was a completely generic message), but I was able to verify its legitimacy, aided by the fact that I know I just canceled a credit card so that's probably what it's about. The shit for brains company that administers the Flexible Spending Account my wife just enrolled in at her job preassigns usernames for their web portal, and they've decided to put at the end of everyone's preassigned username… the last four digits of their SSN. 🤦

I am perpetually amazed by the fact that nearly all the companies that offer Flexible Spending Account administration services to businesses in the United States are complete and total clowns who apparently can't make it over even the incredibly low bar of, "When you send people instructions for how to use your site, the instructions should actually match what's on your site."

It's been more than a year since #Debian #Linux deprecated the insecure #SHA1 hash algorithm in #APT repositories.
The #Keybase, #Slack, and #Dropbox repositories (I'm sure among others) are still using SHA1, and therefore for over a year they have not worked in Debian without changing the default APT policies to allow them.
I know Slack knows about this, because I told them. A year ago.
Why haven't they upgraded the security on their repository?
Seriously, wtf?

My son just tried to fill out the #FAFSA for the first time. The first step in that process is creating a #FsaId at studentaid.gov/.
The website is broken and refusing to allow my son to create an FSA ID. "An unknown error has occurred. Please try again later or close all browser windows and start over." over and over, from a different page in the process each time he tries.

My uncle's care team at the hospital has been trying to get his health insurance company to approve daily nurse visits. This effort is time-critical, because he's almost ready, medically, to be discharged, and if the nurse visits aren't approved by then he's going to go back to his apartment without them, and that is not going to go well for him.
Two days ago the insurance company sent him a document through their web portal about the visiting nurse request.

Remember how I was being forced to reboot my home router multiple times per day because it would suddenly stop allowing specific TCP connections through the router?
I tried to get help from TP-Link support, and they were useless.
Just to see if it would help, I factory reset the router and manually restored its configuration, and lo and behold, the problem has not returned. 🤦

Oh, holy shit, it appears that #Vanguard objects to my password manager filling in my username and password.
jfc
If I have Bitwarden fill in the username and password, and then I click on the username field and hit tab twice so that a real key-press (the tab key) is registered in both the username and password field, and THEN click the login button, I am logged in just fine.

#Vanguard says my username or password is incorrect. That's false.
Nevertheless, reset my password successfully and immediately afterward I got the same message with my new password.
My wife can't log in either.
Doesn't work in Vivaldi, Firefox, Chrome, or Chromium (with no extensions or blockers).
Doesn't work in private browsing window.
Their support line is closed on the weekend so I can't call until tomorrow to find out wtf is going on.
This is some serious bullshit.
