There are a lot of games on my #telnetBBS (also #ssh). If you save in one of the text adventures, you can load it later. It stores your adventure saves in your own directory so others are not overwriting your games

You can mess around with your own "personal" copy of #freedos on my telnet/ssh #BBS as well (in the Games menu)

#telnetBBS #sshBBS #DOS #retro

You are about to enter your own install of FreeDOS
on this BBS. It uses 8086tiny. You have a 128mb HD

Not all commands work (only an 8086 is emulated).
To send Alt, Ctrl, Function keys, etc:
* To send an Altsxxx key combination, press Ctrls then the key,
For example to type ALL+F, press Ctrlsh then F.
* To send an Fxx key, press Ctrl+F then a number key.
For example, to get the F4 key, press Ctrl+F then 4.
to get F1, press CtrlsF then 0.

It's clunky and uses dual instances of on the client and server sides but it lets people access telnet over audio channels... sort of. Might even work over or

"Medium Fast" seems functional (even with ansi) if slow

"Long Fast" is sort-of-functional IF I set the BBS to be ASCII by default but it is "get some coffee SLOW" and you will be waiting for your keystrokes to reach the BBS and come back

Monochrome (www.mono.org) is a #TelnetBBS which is still active after over 30 years.
Giving it a little boost here to see if there's interest. So if you were a fan of the #BBS and the communities that they fostered, have a look.

Screenshot from the beginner's guide on the mono web page.

Connecting to Monochrome
To login to Monochrome, click on the 'connect' link above to access all the options for connecting. Once you have connected, login as user: mono, then enter your account name at the Account: prompt. If you do not have an account, use 'guest' as the account name.

Conventions
Throughout Monochrome, the following conventions are used for navigation:

Square brackets denote individual keypresses. Thus [S][I] means that you should press the S key followed by the I key.
[^X] means Control-X - press them at the same time.
Angle brackets denote keypaths, generally from the Main Menu. Thus "go to <IHU>" means that you should go to the Main Menu (type [ESC][G]), then type [I][H][U] to go to the file or menu in question. A '^' in keypaths is often used to denote [ESCAPE], for instance, <^Y>.
Help
The bottom of the screen shows the most commonly used options. You can press [?] to see the help. If you need more help than that, press [C] to continue on in the help text or go to <IH> within Monochrome.Putty SSH terminal showing the Message of the Day for someone logging on as a guest user. Using full ascii colour, messages separated by a blue line with the date and time, sender, subject and message. At the bottom, context keypresses show actions from that screen/page, and % read of that file.Mono BBS main menu. A banner fills the top 3rd of the screen, with a coloured text advert for a section on Fashion. The Keypath is shown.

In the middle, the top level menus are shown, with the keypress required to get into each. E.g. [T] to Enter Science, [T]echnology and Medicine.

At the bottom is a message saying "Hello 'Guest User'. 4 other users at Thu Nov 2"

Ah, the good old days, with FILE_ID.DIZ files full of ASCII art and mod files with trippy music. Now I want to set up my old #BBS as a #TelnetBBS. Oh, and get one of those nifty #RetroWifiModem PCB's that slide into a Hayes modem enclosure. And then I can BBS from my C64 like it's 1989!

#RetroComputing #S3M #ModPlayer #TrackerMusic

Screenshot of an I3 desktop with two terminal windows. The top one shows the contents of a file named FILE_ID.DIZ, which has an ascii art logo spelling KLF and some text about the module file. The lower window has xmp playing a file named NEPT!KLF.S3M.
