I picked up a #Thinkpad T530 from #EFM on Sunday. Got #Win10 64 bit installed, and I noticed the two #USB3 ports are not working. The #USB2 port next to it is working, it is what I used for installing Win10 since the other 2 ports did not work.

I confirmed the drivers are installed, and showing up on Device manager as a #USB 3 root hub & Intel USB 3 eXtensible host controller
I checked the BIOS for USB settings, and all are enabled.
All windows updates are installed
All latest drivers are installed

Any thoughts as to next tshooting steps?

@blog Do they have one that does the same for the data capabilities of the cable? Because most USBC power cables, including the high power fancy ones with braded sleeves and power displays and ID chips, are good for no more than USB2 480MB/s data transfer rate.

I just went through and threw out a bunch of USBC cables including pretty expensive ones from Apple that showed up with USB2 connections when I used them to connect a USB3 device.

#Lightning was great when it first came out considering its counterpart was something as shitty as Micro USB. It's gotten super irrelevant though since USB-C's inception, and should've been replaced as soon as #MacBooks and #iPads started using USB-C long ago. Farewell Lightning, won't miss you.

I'm kinda bummed that the #iPhone 15 Pro's USB-C is #USB3 (3.2*2, 10Gbps) instead of #USB4/#Thunderbolt, but that's kind of expected from smartphones. What's unforgivable though is the regular iPhone 15/Plus getting USB-C, cool, which is only #USB2 (same as Lightning), NOT cool. USB2 should have long died, not included in a smartphone from 2023.

Ok, time for some last minute #iPhone15 speculations, specifically about #USB speeds on the #usbc port which is widely expected to come to the iPhone 15. Most leaks are saying the Pros will get #USB3 or thunderbolt while the base will get USB2, but I think the base iPhone 15 will get USB 3 speeds while the Pros will get thunderbolt. Many leaks saying the base iPhone gets #USB2 are based on the type of cable in box, but #Apple regularly includes USB2 charging cables with USB3 devices. 1/3

Considering the upcoming #iphone transition to #usbc, I'm not sure I'm happy about it. USB-C connector degrades too fast, especially compared to #lightning that serves for years. I'd be much happier if they just upgraded the protocol cause it’s a shame to ship #apple flagship #smartphone with #usb2 these years.
