10 gig networking via an #ASMedia #ASM2464PD #Thunderbolt / #USB4 bridge, originally intended as an #NVMe enclosure.
The NIC runs at Gen3 (8GT/s) x2, which is more than enough for 10G.
Here's Plan A, for my Thunderbolt/USB4 eNIC.
Most of the parts have been delivered. I'm still waiting for some 12V DC-DC boosters - the M.2 to PCIe x4 adaptor needs an external 12V supply.
I hope that i don't have to flash custom firmware onto that ASM2464PD, in order to handle PCIe instead of NVMe devices.

I'll use the 5V USB supply, which is present at the regulator in the bottom right, by the 4 large unpopulated pads - it's an AMS1117, its left pin is GND, the right pin is 5V Vin - that's where i'll tap-off.

draft - Can we get Microsoft to require new windows11 laptops to have a power delivery usb4 port on each side? I still see some windows11 laptops being sold with nonstandard power cables and it would be nice if they would fully embrace USBC/USB4 for power delivery / high speed data, video out etc. maybe even start adding gpmi, unless USBC power delivery can go up to 480 watts. Well, I should have thought of this before but the USB 4 ports on my new X870E mainboard do offer DisplayPort output from the AMD 7000 CPU onboard Radeon Graphics.
It's only Displayport 1.4 with HBR3, so a maximum of 4K 60Hz, but I'll take it. Working fine at 2K 144Hz. Two monitors now up and running.
In an surprising display (to coin a phrase) of forthought I even have the correct DP to USB C cable on hand!
Sometimes the odds really are in your favour 😊
Now to work out why the Nvidia GPU isn't working very well with Windows 11 and the correct drivers installed.
