Dear #fediverse hypothetically what do we do if the alphabet company fucks up the #youtube #ad revenue business? How likely it is that the current ad industry collapses?
YouTube only works because of its scale, providing the infrastructure for a service like this costs billions a year. Hardware and power cost is not going down as all the economists wanted to believe like it is a law, while the rate of uploaded videos, their size and watch time (cost) still grows rapidly.
The general profit margins in imperialist countries are so low, how long can the AD industry increase the sales true ADs?

Is it just me that thinks the current economical situation could impact this to a level where the ad industry and all the related services and creators that only exist because of the sales the AD industry generates could fall into a deep crisis soon?
I’m not necessarily saying that the business model will completely collapse but YouTube seems to struggle with this exact question a lot and tries to increase ad revenue with many desperate attempts, even destroying core functionality of the service slowly while cost of operation is not at all going down as expected.
What do we do if this collapses, there is so much trash on these servers for sure but also so much culture and human history that might gets lost in a market crash. I'm not trying to fear monger and I'm not in the clear myself but try to understand the economical situation around this so we can find solutions tougher.
At the end #alphabet needs our labour (building and programming computers and parts as well as creating content) to keep this going and if our labour is to cheap to consume more but to high for them to be able invest more in living capital they are a bit screwed.

Employees with the Columbus Metropolitan Library have been working to form a union for the better part of a year, according to members participating in the effort, and planning to unionize with the Ohio Federation of Teachers.
For Jude Virostko, an adult services librarian at the library system’s South High branch, growing up in Coshocton meant being a “library kid,” something that fed into her thirst for knowledge and desire to be a librarian.
“I was at my library every chance I got,” Virostko said. “It was a place where I felt safe when that wasn’t necessarily the case in other places.”
She “wanted to be that safe space” after she moved to Columbus and has been in libraries every since.
“Libraries are an essential part of a functioning democracy,” Virostko said, as they face funding challenges on the state and federal level.
But being a librarian has “become a little bit more dangerous,” according to Megan Sheeran, a librarian at the Columbus library’s main location in downtown Columbus.
She has watched as the library has become a place for all people to come and feel welcomed, but also a place where staff are asked to do more than ever before.
“Some have been threatened and assaulted,” Sheehan said. “People are honestly having a really tough time and we’re on the frontlines being asked to help with that.”
About 630 workers are a part of the union’s bargaining unit, and the organizing committee has talked with more than half of union-eligible Columbus Metropolitan Library employees, with about 80% supportive of the efforts.
