I’ve been rewatching #Watchmen, the 2019 HBO series. Enjoyed it the first time round and it’s standing up on second viewing.

The show assumes I know the context of these events in recent history while simultaneously indicating they didn't happen the way I'm familiar with.

I think what I want is a #Watchmen style "And then Nixon was elected to a third term and history diverged." statement which never comes.

Watching the animated adaptation of Watchmen and the voice cast is good so far but I really am not a huge fan of this animation style. It looks like Into the Spider-Verse made on just a fraction of the budget. Very stilted and clunky.

So I read Watchmen knowing “it was important” but not really anything else.

Initially it was confusing, with all the unfamiliar characters, but I was soon sucked in.

This was about 2004-ish, before the internet meme-ified everything. And well before the movie.

It was just great. There some major, *major* plot drops that hit like a sack of hammers. And it’s surrounded by incredible world building. Multiple readings are definitely rewarding.

I guess if you haven’t read it, I suggest resetting your expectations to zero, and giving it a good shot.
