A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Gogebic, Iron, and Ontonagon counties through 6 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2026 (Central Standard Time).  Lake effect snow showers will lead to new snowfall accumulations of 2 to 5 inches.  Strong winds coming off Lake Superior will lead to blowing, drifting, and reduced visibility on roadways.A Wind Advisory is in effect for the North Shore region of the Northland from 6 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2026, to 6 a.m. Wednesday, January 14.  Wind gusts up to 45 mph are possible in this area, resulting in possible downed trees and power lines.As temperatures cool to seasonal levels for lows Tuesday night in the single digits above and below zero, a strong northerly wind will create wind chill readings in the 10 to 25 degree below zero range Fahrenheit.  This is just below the threshold for Cold Weather Advisory alerts to be issued, but still a concern for anyone who will be out for a long period of time Wednesday morning.

Locations away from #LakeSuperior will have the coldest below zero #temperatures and #windchills Tuesday night, feeling at times as cold as -40°.

#Clouds increase as a backtrack front will bring light #snow #showers across the #Northland. Highs will warm back to the single digits and low teens, but a #breeze will keep it feeling like it’s below zero.

The lowest wind chill readings observed in the Northland the morning of February 18, 2025, include 44-below in Hibbing, Minnesota, 43-below in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, 42-below in Grand Marais, Minnesota, 41-below in Grantsburg, Wisconsin, 40-below in Namakagon, Wisconsin, and 39-below in Fernberg, Minnesota.  All temperatures readings are in degrees Fahrenheit.Actual low temperatures across the Northland the morning of February 18, 2025, range from 4-above to 29-below degrees Fahrenheit.  That is a few degrees warmer than what I had forecast the previous day.An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for southern Aitkin, Burnett, Douglas, Pine, and Washburn counties from midnight through 9 a.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 (Central Standard Time).  Wind chill readings in this area could drop as low as 45-below degrees Fahrenheit.  A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for northern Aitkin, Ashland, Bayfield, Cook, Iron, Itasca, Koochiching, Sawyer, and St. Louis counties for the same time period, as wind chill readings could drop as low as 35-below.
