Saturday Night’s Alright For Reading

Image shows a copy of Terry Pratchett's book Reaper man laying on a red blanket. There's a bubbling glass of Prosecco in my hand. Terry Pratchett and a glass of prosecco. That's my type of Saturday evening. Party on word nerds! Out of interest, what are you reading at the moment?

Those old sayings; a @wordsbyterryl article.
We all hear them from the time we acquire language as a child. They’re so ingrained and so taken for granted that we don’t really think about what they say. MoonLit questions these old sayings in this full moon’s offering.

We also introduce wrdnrdbrd (Word Nerd Bird). A friendly glyph found on #openclipart.

A word lesson:

- sensor: detects or measures things
- censor: to suppress things or shut people up
- censer: priests swing it and send aromatic smoke billowing
- senser: you when you just know a thing that you haven't seen or heard yet

Telling me to stop the verbal interruption? That's a censure.

In "little things that make me happy", I have seen the word "comprise" used *correctly*, twice in the past few days! I think these are also the 2 most recent times I've seen it used at all!

I know 2 occurrences don't make a trend, but they do at least make me happy. 😄

It’s #TulipDay! Beyond being a beautiful sign of spring, tulips are notable for being connected to one of the first market bubbles, and we have a short video about that.

May 5. Describe the way your antagonist speaks.
🗨️
The Lavishiers have adopted a heavily vaudevillian sort of "French" accented English with extra words borrowed from other languages...
🗯️
Think if robots from the future wanted to perform theatre of what they thought Americans with no theatre experience would do with a French accent (plus had AI randomly throw in words from Mandarin, Nigerian, and Gaelic, etc).
