An honest person will never simply assume you're lying to them. A liar will never simply assume you're telling the truth.

Many academic papers could be half as long—or less. But we write them to be self-contained and accessible to a broad scholarly audience, so we repeat background, define well-known terms, pad the argument just to be safe. And then publishers restrict the number of footnotes.
In an ideal world, a paper would be short, dense, even cryptic—and followed by a massive apparatus of notes explaining context, terminology, prior work, alternatives. Instead, we do the opposite: long main text, minimal notes

Random thought for world builders:
Think of unique fighting styles for characters who live in different areas.
Real World Examples:
👊 Compare kickboxing, Judo, Capoeira, and Kung Fu.
🤺 Compare fencing, hema, Angampora, and kendo.
The first fictional example I think of for magic is ATLA.

Random thought: 🤔
You know how most fighters struggle with fighting a south paw (left-handed) fighter because everything is mirrored? Would it be the same with swordfighting, so a left-handed sword fighter could have an advantage? ⚔️

So here's the thing. I'm a writer myself, and an editor, and I run a small bookshop focused on small press and self published titles. (The Scribbling Lion, if anyone is interested in that last.)
I'm fucking PICKY. I see a number of "problems" with this series on, as I said, a technical level. I'm ITCHING to offer my editing services. At a discount, even. But I won't.
Because it would be ARROGANT of me. And I love the point this series makes as it stands. The example it sets. We all, as writers, need to relax and get tf over ourselves. Focus on telling a ripping good story and realize that while technical perfection is ideal, the bar isn't quite as high as we believe. A great story, well told, allows wiggle room on points like "argh, no, use a comma at the end of that dialogue tag" and "no, that's not the right word, you used a homonym" and so on.
Would I stock it in my bookstore, if it came to print? No. Not as it stands. Not without an technical edit overhaul. But will I recommend reading it? Absolutely.
Read this series. Get back to me on your own thoughts. See if you get addicted too.

Okay, that's gone fast. I'm on the last chapter of my World Building nonfic book.
Who wants to beta read for coherence, More Here Please and general head-pats for my imposter syndrome?
⚔️Tip for writing armoured combat: ⚔️
Plate armour was typically thicker over the vitals (the front) then thinner on the sides. It could have been partly because of weight, but also because generally your arms would cover the area anyways.

Currently thinking about the latest revision of my book again. We paused querying to make this revision that we think will make it a lot stronger of a beginning and I'm really really hoping so haha. I'm dying to re-read it all the way through and make a final assessment.
Saw a post asking about wips and uh... *sweats nervously*
I have many. Some are drafts for one thing that turned into another and some are discarded ideas and some mostly live in my head.
But I have many and they're probably trying to unionize over neglect aha ha
Really been FEELING horror again lately, feel like I'm rediscovering those things that drew me to writing it in the first place. In particular, the genuine joy and delight it brings me to write, in a way that other writing doesn't. Which are odd descriptors for horror, I guess, but also key. There's a certain visceral JOY in good horror and horror concepts, I think.
#writers do you agree? What's your horror elements that bring you joy?
Writing is like a roller coaster—some days you feel like you're on top of the world and other days you just want to throw your laptop out the window! #WritingThoughts #CreativeWriting :ablobcatbongo:

I wrote this morning. I'm about to #write, as soon as this toot is out. Also, I want to see something. Which platform is better, as far as sales go? (One sale from this one will prove that it is better than the avian site.)

Today, I plan to write. I haven't set a target as to the number of hours or pages I will write. But, there will be pages on the word. Or words on the page.

After the two naps I took today, I'm ready to resume the writing. It's a fun scene to write, too.
Got the tea, the pen and the wooden chair. There shall be words.
Hoping to put 5 books out there this year. Can I count you as my readership?

It is now 10:30 at night. The phone has not buzzed with invites to a drink or something. Besides, it's snowing. So, after 40 hours of work, I suppose it's time to sit on the wooden chair and put words on the page.
The other day, I was working on a novel's first scene and realized how crappy it was. Its crap level was "who am I kidding? I'm not a writer".
I polished it a little. It's still crap, but less so.
