what if instead of always-on feeds, we had digital gardens?
what if media responded to weather, to light, to rest?
what if the internet could nap?

solarsocial is another seed. a theoretical framework.
it’s not just for disruption. it’s for re-rooting.

@spritely is doing important work. This thread by #ActivityPub co-author Christine is great. I've long supported decentralized + #P2P tech #bittorrent #dat #beakerbrowser #cabal #mastodon #earthstar it's critical to protect/support creative technology in the face of an uncertain Web

okubrowser.github.io/

Beaker Browser was a Chromium-based Web browser that incorporated the Dat protocol with the primary aim of enabling peer-to-peer static site sharing. To this end, Oku is similar; in fact, Beaker Browser was part of the inspiration to create Oku. The two projects diverge in their long-term ambitions, however; (...)

@trashrobot I was going to send you to #BeakerBrowser to suggest something #p2p rather than the tech stack on your diagram, but looks like it shut down!

Maybe there's some good insights there: github.com/beakerbrowser/beake

I am sad that the #BeakerBrowser has been archived. For a short period of time, the Beaker Browser was home to a handful of people who were all working on their own hyperdrive sites. It was like a small workshop, with people from all over the world. I had the hope that the subculture we've been waiting for all these years would emerge over there. I had the hope that a new design language would develop, that DIY would become radical again. Too bad you're leaving, #Beaker. RIP

Beaker browser: beakerbrowser.com : A p2p browser. You can make your own website in minutes, and host it on your computer in the browser itself. No server required. Can be used to send large file. Not as reliable as the previous 2: I had difficulty to connect between computers.

Llevo tiempo en Linux, pero siempre tengo la sensación de qué navegador podría usar...#firefox #chromium #librewolf #beakerbrowser son los que tengo instalados...y la verdad que no se con cual quedarme. ¿Alguna recomendación?

#BeakerBrowser hasn't seen an update for a year, sadly. :(

I hope those great beginnings won't stop where they are, but at least inspire other projects.

Ah, #beakerbrowser serait abandonné apparemment… le dev arrêterait et passerait à un autre projet :/
Moi qui vient de le réinstaller

@TheFuzzStone I had a look at #BeakerBrowser just now and I like it very much.

Though I don't find any people using it _or_ their content being live. Thinking about putting a website on a server and seeing what happens.

I used Beaker Browser back when hypercore was still called dat.

Since the renaming, I've been trying to open every hyper:// url I came across with Beaker Browser and was consistently greeted with a "Site Not Found". It doesn't seem to be able to open dat:// urls either.

Does anybody have a working hyper:// url I can test with?

I am using Beaker Browser 1.1

What should I put on #beaker #beakerbrowser?

Awesome talk about the ideas and possibilities behind the Beaker Browser, a peer-to-peer browser.

@gpsych @aadil thanks, have it on my radar, but not tried yet. You're right in that we should decentralise the web. But it doesn't help in the current discussion, as #BeakerBrowser also chromium-based. Sounds like a good project though. What is your relation with it?
