i'm disappointed with how these two desktop environments run on my fujitsu tablet

Plasma desktop for whatever reason drained my mobile broadband data because it seems to just put it on primary instead of the secondary for internet connection (i turned off mobile broadband connection)

Gnome does not have lower resolution options and i think its either philosophical reasons or its just the fact that they don't like outdated tech like CRTs. I liked gnome for the performance it gave and also, its useful to add such lower resolutions because i basically need this to mirror my display to my capture card because it only supports 720x480 (3:2 to be exact, DP-1 only) and not the 1920x1280 (3:2, eDP-1 only)

overall, i think i'm just gonna stick what i have right now (which is gnome) and just hope that the maintainers/contribs would fix some issues that i'm currently having. #linux #desktopenvironment #gnome #kde #plasmadesktop #plasma

I always feel torn between two worlds with my primary laptops. :linux:

Either I'm optimizing my tiling and keyboard navigation experience on my Thinkpad or trying to create a smoother touchscreen tablet environment on my Surface.

I usually only take one when I travel for work and feel weird trying to get back into using the other later.

I've been messing around with #LXQT in a vm lately. I really kind of like it.

Is anyone using LXQT in a multi-head / multi-monitor configuration?

Any issues with where it defaults to placing new apps, resuming from screensaver or hibernation, adding/removing displays while running? Anything else I'm not thinking about?

I do enjoy a desktop environment that allows you to _easily_ create an old skool right-click menu on your desktop.

There's some quirks to configuring the ordering, not sure if I'll need to hand edit the menu once I get it most of the way there.

For a mutli-head setup this avoids having to have an Application Launcher on every screen, but it does require access to unobscured desktop in order to work.

And my nerdy part likes the '80s-'90s UNIX desktop vibes it creates. Ha.

Cropped screenshot showing the KDE Menu Editor app with the resultant right-click desktop menu beside it. Nothing fancy, just basic usability and customization.

@HeliaXyana when people ask me what Linux to try, I always recommend #LinuxMint or #Fedora. They are my top choices because they are community-run not corporate owned, and they are both extremely well designed, they both have lots of software in their package repositories, they come with everything a new user could ever need in an operating system already built-in, and (most of all) are both ridiculously stable and predictable, to a degree that you wouldn’t have thought possible of a computer operating system.

By the way, to make LinuxMint look and feel like as “pretty” as Fedora, it’s just one command: sudo apt-get install task-gnome-desktop, then logout and login again. Done.

To make Fedora look and feel as “ugly” LinuxMint, it’s just one command: sudo dnf install @cinnamon-desktop, then logout and login again. Done.

But personally, I find #CinnamonDE to be beautiful, it is my daily driver.

GYESME: A New Design-Led Downstream Of GNOME Being Explored:
phoronix.com/news/GYESME-GNOME
(Interesting project, I like the concept to make GNOME more flexible while keeping the overall user experience. I don't really get why GNOME wants to tie itself to Systemd. Also, supporting ather design systems like the KDE/Qt ecosystem would be nice (if they mean that), I face theming issues all the time with programs written for KDE, which make some programs unusable for me, while other than the theming, they would be great for my use case. I'm curious whether this project will shape up as an actual, daily drivable desktop in the future.)
(I don't really get what they mean about "Defaults are protected more aggressively than options." though. It sounds like they want to limit customization, while in the rest of the description, they emphasize flexibility. 🤔 Or maybe I'm just interpreting it in the wrong way.)
(But other than that I like their mindset of listening to feedback, adapting direction accordingly.)
