There's been a disaster in my home town over the last week (flooding in the Manning Valley on Biripi country). In the past, Facebook has been really useful for disaster response communication and coordination.

I ditched Facebook for various reasons over the past couple of years. Now it's extremely obvious how much of a problem it is to have publicly beneficial communication funneled through a walled garden.
