Day 3 - Is your MC a good cook? Any special dishes?

Yeah, oddly enough...

Currently, the book opens with a brief cosmic birth "dream" sequence where Walen experiences a 3rd person reliving of a time he was naked in a lover's kitchen flipping omelettes for their post love snack.

IDK about Minerva, because I hadn't thought about it...
I'm going to guess she's a protein bars & hot pockets kinda gal TBH 🤣

For those who are just now finding me, I have published 7 novels in the past 3 years, including one under a pen name. This is the first and the perfect starting point for these interconnected books. It’s the Eighties and this intrepid band of musicians is trying to make their way in the often cutthroat world of Rock and Roll.

The good news is that my debut novel is written, re-written (more often than I care to count) and ready to go. The bad news is: that was the easy part. Now comes the hard part - getting it published. #authorssupportingauthors #FirstNovel unexpectedangles.wordpress.com

My debut novel is with my agent, and I have now begun a monthly series on how I wrote Hiram Falls: the origin, the revisions, the changes, an intimate look at one writer's process: geoffreygevalt.substack.com/s/

Sometimes magic happens. I just received word that a kick-ass agent with jewels for clients has agreed to represent my book, #HiramFalls

Hurdle one is cleared. Now for the second ...

Finding an agent seemed a dreary enterprise, and I feel blessed that my misery lasted but six weeks.

Mock cover of my book, Hiram Falls. Black and white, blurry multiple exposure of woods in snowstorm with osprey coming in. Text: Hiram Falls. A town with secrets. Some are discovered. Some shouldn't be.

Spring in #Vermont: We got a dump of 14-16 inches of heavy wet snow, and were house bound April 4 & 5. When is spring coming?

But it was a great opportunity to finish making a final pass -- clean-up and tightening -- on #HiramFalls

I just sent out the finished manuscript to a potential agent who asked to see it.

Wish me luck!

A place-holder book cover to my first novel, Hiram Falls, which I have completed. Cover has a blurry background of snowy scene with osprey coming in to land on the book title. Sub head reads: "A town with secrets. Some are discovered. Some shouldn't be."

I started to dig into my editor’s comments today. Have I mentioned that they used to edit for Penguin Random House and BBC’s Doctor Who? I’ll take their vote of confidence.

Thought I was just about done with the draft of my first novel. Opened it up today to go over the entire thing again, promising myself that I'd only make minor edits, if any. A promise broken as early as the prologue... 😅

Power, poses and conventions:

„no one liked it when Helen remarked that it seemed to her as wrong to keep sailors as to keep a Zoo, and that as for dying on a battle-field, surely it was time we ceased to praise courage — "or to write bad poetry about it," snarled Pepper.“

Clarissa wanted to end their small talk by not using any more open questions. To her surprise, Mr. Griece, Steward, knew how to keep the conversation going on with „And what d‘you know about it?“.

„Sitting lightly upright she seemed to be dealing with the world as she chose; the enormous solid globe spun round this way and that beneath her fingers.“

Clarissa has constructed her own perception of reality - she shows it in her posture.

„By special arrangement, however, were words of high encouragement in their ears, for they came of a class where almost everything was specially arranged, or could be if necessary.“

Mr. & Mrs. Dalloway belonged to a privileged social class…

Inextricably mixed in dreamy confusion, her mind seemed to enter into communion, to be delightfully expanded and combined, with the spirit of the whitish boards on deck, with the spirit of the sea, with the spirit of Beethoven Op.111, even with the spirit of poor William Cowper there at Olney.“ (Rachel dreaming)

Helplessness, pain, fear and empathy in the eternal water cycle.

„The straw and the patch swam again and again behind the tremulous medium of a great welling tear, and the tear rose and fell and dropped into the river.“

Book Review: The Secret Diaries of Charles Ignatius Sancho

A bravura act of 'critical fabulation' by Paterson Joseph, the book was well-reviewed when it was first published in 2022, but didn't get the coverage it deserved.

Finished my first draft of my forest horror. I now am faced with rewrites, editing and typing. I can see this being the least favourite stage and already am having anxiety about it. #writing #firstnovel
