"Giant Steps" is a jazz #composition by American saxophonist #JohnColtrane. It was first recorded in 1959 and released on the 1960 album #GiantSteps. The composition features a cyclic chord pattern that has come to be known as #ColtraneChanges. The composition has become a #jazzStandard, covered by many artists. Due to its speed and rapid transition through the three keys of B major, G major and E♭ major, #Vox described the piece as "the most feared song in jazz".

I’m sitting here listening to different versions of the jazz classic Giant Steps by John Coltrane. So far none of them come close to the original. I like the Courtney Pine version and even the Kenny Garrett rendition, but for some reason that original take from the titular album is a masterpiece. I play in a weekly jazz combo under the direction of the great vibes/pianist/percussion/composer Mark Sherman at the New York Jazz Workshop. A couple of weeks ago, there was a group of younger cats in the rehearsal studio right before us, and we said Hi coming and going.
