#gitpod is apparently going all-in on AI agents for software development. It's a pity, Gitpod used to be a very useful tool. I guess I'll have to go back to installing the ESP toolchain locally for compiling #tasmota
OTOH, I never paid for it, since the free offering was always plenty for my use case, so I don't begrudge them wanting to cash in on the AI bubble before it collapses. They may be a tad late, though...
TIL: "Failed to start the VMM thread Address in use" just means that the unix socket in gitpod-runner/sockets/ was not removed (probably because gitpod-runner manager process exited abruptly) `rm {environment-id}.socket` and you're good to go #gitpod

Am I using #Github #Codespaces wrong?
I thought the point of creating a devcontainer.json file to specify extra bits have built when you set up a machine, and they were honoured on the creation of codespaces.
Given that #Gitpod seems to be adopting #devcontainer now, I figured I'd try Codespaces. A basic thing seems to be harder than I thought.
If you have direct experience building Codespaces, would you share a pointer on how to fix this seemingly basic thing?

Gestern versucht was mit #OpenMQTTGateway und ttgo #Lora ESP32 Board aufzusetzen. Weder die Build von #gitpod noch selbstkompilierten Binaries mit PlatformIO wollten starten. Grund war dann wohl dass die aktuelle Version auf dem Board broken ist, weil zuwenig Flash. Danke für nichts! Darf wohl jeder selber rausfinden. Älteres Binary läuft

The possibility to develop something like a mobile app in Android studio through the web UI of VNC and even with a debugger connected to a physical device - all running on a #container in #GitPod - is astonishing and it's the proof that #containers are the future and virtual machines the past.

The trick was #adb pair + tailscale ip : the right #port from #pairing with code and finally adb #connect!

It's almost time for Advent of Code. My laptop broke and needs to go back to Apple for repair. 😱
This prodded me to try something I've been meaning to try for a while: an IDE in the cloud. After an afternoon of fiddling, my repo is configured for use with Gitpod. Now I'm ready for Dec 1 on Friday.
(This will let me code on my work computer, without having to get clearance from IT to install non-work stuff.)
