Ho iniziato ad usare #gomuks come client #Matrix. È da terminale, ma puoi usare il mouse per spostarti tra le stanze e supporta funzioni come le risposte, l'invio di allegati, il login semplice con user e password senza toccare file di configurazione, etc.

What's the state of #matrix, #xmpp and #IRC as far as #screenReader -accessible clients are concerned? Desktop (Windows, Mac) and mobile (iOS, Android).
Hoping for some input, please feel free to boost. As far as I know:
Matrix does not have a lightweight, fully accessible client for desktop, but one could be modified, such as #gomuks. On mobile, Element has scrolling issues, which is unacceptable for large rooms.
XMPP has accessible desktop clients (I used to run #Adium on the Mac), also #WeeChat. No idea about mobile.
IRC is perhaps the one which everything supports on desktop, from #MirandaIM through Weechat to the old Freedom Chat, which I could probably rewrite if I had to. Also not sure about mobile, but it would definitely need push notifications, because we can't expect people to stay constantly online on the go. #a11y #accessibility
@UlrikeHahn As @Chip_Unicorn says, Element = frontend. Org = New Vector Ltd. In terms of ethics (vs #TyrannyOfConvenience) the main Matrix software is #AGPLv3 [1]; the protocol is open [2]; self-hosting is legal and ethical [3].
As @lavaeolus says, security tends to oppose convenience: there's a learning curve for E2EE.
I like #gomuks terminal; gomuks web is rapidly developing [4].

@T_X Also the bet i made 5y ago is won: how disappointing it seemed at first, it is the power of the communities, the cleverness of the free/libre software developpers and users, and the personal work on tweaking and tinkering that made it over time get way better: more performance, adequation to my own needs, battery life even!

I was a gomuks user in the past, so recently when setting up Matrix again I decided to try https://iamb.chat and I love it.
It has a very minimal UI. You can set up a layout, exit and by default it will remember it.
Controls are vim-like all the way to macros. You can have tabs for things like rooms, DMs, the room list, and you can further split tabs into panes.
After tweaking the space taken by the usernames on left side of chat, I now have a compact Matrix monitor on my terminal.
Клиент для discord которым пользовался почти 2 года - "протух". Перепробывал все доступные клиенты, так ничего и не подошло. Волевым решением решил использовать мост для matrix (рассматривал еще более знакомый irc). Поднимал с помощью https://t2bot.io/discord/ без всякой этой ебатни с созданием ботов. В качестве клиента отлично подошел gomuks.
Еще нашел минималистический matui, но в нём нет возможности удалять сообщения.
@ff7 @stereo @ulyssa i was just looking if there are some others next to #gomuks long time ago i tested alternative cli #matrix clients. and #iamb together with a #vim mindset. its a good fit and it works! also with a straight forward device verification. and later you have split terminal windows or tabs or ... in short: you will feel at home if you like :vsplit ;)

ich benutze #matrix zb per #gomuks und dank bruecken zu signal, whatsapp zb kann man alles in einem verwenden und hat eine breitere toolauswahl.
i wish #matrix had #fluffychat for #macos ... best client thus far has been #gomuks in #mosh
It's amazing just how much can be done in the #Linux #terminal. Document editing? Write it in #Vim with #Markdown or #reStructuredText and view it in #Lynx. Spreadsheet? There's #scim for that. Web browsing? Well there's things like Lynx, #Links, #Links2, and whatnot, but you can even use #Chromium in the terminal via #Carbonyl. Chat can be accomplished via IRC with #WeeChat or #IRSSI, or you can use Matrix with #gomuks (although gomuks doesn't quite work without a mouse or a terminal emulator sadly - it's hard to use from a TTY). #QEMU can be used for virtualization even without a graphical display if you're willing to use a serial console or SSH into the VM. Email can be done with #mutt. Most developer tools are CLI based or can be used from the CLI. And you can use #tmux (or GNU #screen) for running multiple terminals at once in an environment that looks like a tiling window manager.
One of these days I might set up a fully CLI-based workstation and see just how much I can do from it. Theoretically, almost everything I do can be done without a graphical environment. As long as Carbonyl can be used without a mouse or somehow has inbuilt mouse support, it should be awesome.

@panmaster when i'm using the phone in portrait style, i use the on screen keyboard. when i use convergence mode i just use a physical keyboard like any other computer. it's the same deal as other console apps like #tut or #gomuks
@gamey @craftyguy then there's #gomuks, a TUI matrix client for those who want a more limited set of features in a more comfortable environment. goes great with tut for the fediverse, neomutt for email, newsboat for rss, etc
I'm currently using #gomuks for talking in a Matrix channel, as weechat-matrix fails to register with Fedora's Matrix instance. It's usability is quite a step backwards, but good enough. I just can't for the life of me use these attention/space hogging web or graphical UIs.
