Moulins souterrains du Col-des-Roches (unterirdische #Mühle von Col-des-Roches)

Vor diesem Urlaub wusste ich nichtmal, dass es so etwas gab. Weil der Bach dort im Sumpfgebiet verläuft, kam im 17. Jahrhundert die Idee auf, die Wasserräder in den unterirdischen Ablauf des Bachs zu bauen. So entstanden mehrere Mühlräder auf mehreren Stockwerken. Ein beeindruckendes #Bauwerk.

The wonderful Barranco de la Luna today. A short half day trip but well worth it.
The ravine features dramatic rock formations, lush vegetation, and a small, crystal-clear stream.

The trail follows the ravine, with some rocky sections and shallow river crossings - adding a sense of adventure. The highlight is the "Cañón de la Luna," a narrow canyon with towering walls that feel almost otherworldly.

A 'wall level' view inside a large gorge. Wall facings are brown and tan, with layered, jagged ridges. Collective walls are reaching out and receding in smooth patterns on both sides. Some green vegetation can be seen along parts of the walls, especially as you look up to higher areas - even trees are growing out of the rock up high. The entire pic has a 'rain effect' as the picture was taken behind a layer of falling streaks of water droplets.

A walkway to the left with a female in quick pace motion. Walkway is sandwiched between a gorge wall to the left and a thigh-high stone wall to the right. Shiny white water is falling from above and splattering against the stone wall - the path is also covered in the water. In the distance, the green leaves of trees are visible (through the falling water) as is a high bridge designed for pedestrians to cross the gorge. The right gorge wall is also visible.

Like a scene from "Lord of the Rings", today we enjoyed the spectacular delights of the Garganta de Cares gorge in the Picos de Europa. We missed breakfast and set off in the dark to catch the morning sun entering the gorge. Turned into a very warm hike which later needed copious amounts of cold beer in compensation.
