The green "antigen bomb" effect at the end of #Macrocosm will also show up at the end the next Voyager episode produced, #FairTrade.
Regarding the visual effects of #Macrocosm:
This episode was a giant leap forward for the Voyager effects crew. This was the first Voyager episode to extensively use a CGI based alien. This was a follow up to their first CGI based alien - the "land eel" in the #Basics two-parter. The visual effects crew were not pleased with the final product but the producers loved it. The technology would return in the #Scorpion two-parter. (Memory Alpha)
