I gotta say...one of the things that's been the greatest source of difference between me and all the #computer and #programming people I've run into earlier in life who got up my nose (it's been good to know there's nicer computer geeks in the world, really it has), people who I once felt I ought to be able to communicate with because they were fellow nerds (on some level or another), has to do with plain and simple #measurement.

#Metrics, they would say. That's one problem right there, the #technology people have to have a different word for their sort of measuring, which implies of course that they're not actually measuring things properly. They're off in the weeds somewhere with their "metrics".

Working on a little static analysis of #Python code for common student snafus, but I haven't found the right tool yet. What library or technique beats regex (this seems easy) for finding calls to a certain function, or a function defined but never called?

I thought I might be able to figure this out by reading the CPython bytecode but not quite. All ideas welcome.
