Brutalist Web Design
"Guidelines for web design that adhere to the tenets and ethos of Brutalism"
I wanted to know what people usually call "multi-level marketing" in Russian so checked #Wikipedia and, the Russian translation is listed in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. I guess that's maybe? accurate, but a bit weirdly redundant for a drop down-menu.
On July 2, I will be at the #DWX2025 in Mannheim! 🎙️
I'm glad to see so many women in my track, even though the total share of women among the speakers is only 16%.
Once again, I will be on stage talking about the impact of #accessibility overlays on the #usability and #UserExperience of people with permanent visual impairments.
Hope to see you there!
Scrollbars are slowly shrinking into barely visible lines across browsers and Windows apps - a solution

Keyboard Navigation: Ensuring Usability Without a Mouse, by (not found on Mastodon or Bluesky):

Dear webmasters: If your website is multilingual and has language selection link somewhere, PLEASE make sure they actually take the user to the translated version of the current page, not just the homepage. It’s so frustrating because it forces the user to search for the translated page manually.
When will the block editor in WordPress become smooth on mobile? Even if you can handle it well on desktop, it’s hard to work on it on mobile. And it doesn’t make any fun.
It doesn’t scroll the editor to always show the last line while typing “long” content.
Adding a new block via Enter scrolls the whole editor weirdly, but not as expected. (The same applies to switching to a […]

Chromium 136 freaked up CSS with a strange privacy feature and broke a:visited links.
Display with CSS of visited links fail if no referrer is sent.
I could not find any hint from Chromium Devs and no changelogs why Chromium 134 needed no referrer whereas Chromium 136 needs referrer!
Bug?

I Want to Love Linux. It Doesn’t Love Me Back

Read this article! I promise this is not another “I’ve tried Linux but it is too hard” post but a very insightful and well-written piece on accessibility across the Linux landscape.
I think there could be a usability boost in KDE (or Linux in general) if there was a system where you can easily manage installed programs and the data associated with them (cache, configs, user data, etc), and possibly clean up stray data from programs that are no longer installed. It could be another category (like on android) in the system settings program.
Other ideas include: selective cleaning, notification and permissions management, "open <category type> directory", "open configuration dialog" (or even better, full integration), start menu config..
I do think there would be a need for a common standard for app devs to easily take advantage of, though. (Which I'm sure not everyone will follow, just look at how many are not sticking to the XDG directory structure standard, AKA `.<programName>` directories in your home directory)

I implemented dragging and horizontal scrolling in the Developers and Musicians Spotlight carousels for https://linuxaudio.dev/, while hiding the scroll bars.
What do you think of the current implementation from a #usability perspective? 🤔
