The High Street, Mill Hill. The Brotherhood of the Cross and Star was founded in Nigeria in 1956, by Olumba Olumba Obu. Obu believed that Christ was crucified before he had the chance to fully reveal his teachings. Fortunately, Obu, being the Holy Spirit personified, was able to fill in the gaps. Among other things, this includes the rejection of all medicine.

One doesn't expect to find these sorts of goings-on in Mill Hill of all places, an area dominated by independent schools and unaffordable housing. The High Street is so named on account of its altitude, not for its concentration of retail premises, of which there are none.

Beyond the roadway and privet hedge is a small brick chapel. A large sign board reads 'Brotherhood of the Cross and Star'. The gable of the main body of the building has a wide gothic window in stone. In front of this is the gable end of a small porch entrance in white painted wood. The main roof has a narrow square spire, partly tiled.

Mill Hill Fire Station (1929). In this period civic architecture was sacred architecture. This isn't merely a place to house men and machinery.

Small brick fire station, built in the late 1920s, with a brick drill tower that resembles a church tower. On the front elevation, above three large red doors, on the stone lintel brass letters spell out ' Mill Hill Fire Station'.
