Heh. So, after getting *singed* by one of my paprika peppers, I started to doubt what I had planted. Nope, they are paprika peppers -- just hot ones, not sweet ones.🌶️ And no, paprika peppers are not in this guide (but I used the FloraApp and other sources for that).

#WellsME - Native #NewEngland #Shrubs

Saturday, October 4, 2025,
10:30am – 1:00pm

"Join Boot Boutwell to explore the world of native New England shrubs in autumn!

"Shrubs are a key part of New England landscapes. This program will take a close look at about ten common native New England shrubs, such as high bush blueberry, silky dogwood, sheep laurel, meadowsweet and steeplebush as well as a few non-native invasive shrubs. The program will focus on plant identification as well as fun and interesting #NaturalHistory. We’ll see a plant which colonial Americans used to make candles, a plant whose fruit sea captains used to bring on long voyages to help prevent scurvy, and a plant which the Chippewa used to restore balance in their lives. And as winter is coming and the leaves are going, we’ll also consider some winter identification characteristics. Children ages 10 and up are welcome to register if accompanied by an adult."

Please note: Program fee does not include site admission fee.

Which of these photos do you think is more useful for identification? No wrong answers. This is Juncus interior, a Rush. Photo credit: unc.edu. #PlantIdentification #Ecology #Biology #Plants

Silver #cockscomb - very similar to amaranth.
Originally native to #India - it was saved from extinction through #cultivation because of its religious significance. #Indian , #Burmese & #Chinese gardeners usually plant them by temples.

Cockscomb is an #EdiblePlant & a pretty #grain alternative. Often consumed in southern #Nigeria, #Benin , #Congo & #Indonesia. Young stems & flowers are #edible. Seeds are also edible are referred to as #pseudocereals.

I love these perennial succulents & their gorgeous miniature yellow & green flowers 😍 Excellent carpeting, low level growing plant for drier spots in cultivated gardens.

Can someone please help me to #identify this #plant with huge bean-like #SeedPods - the huge pods caught my eyes.

A close-up shows lush green foliage with several elongated unripe seed pods. The scene is dominated by a variety of leaves, with the light green seed pods tucked amongst them.Close-up shot of a person's hand gently holding three connected, unripe green bean pods still attached to their plant. The bean pods are a slightly bumpy light green and have small pointy ends. Lush green foliage, stems, and leaves, fill the background, partially obscuring the view. The photograph conveys a healthy, organic, garden aesthetic.

Can anyone #Identify this #Plant for me? I thought I knew what it was, but it's growing differently than I've ever seen, so I'm unsure now. #HelpIdentify #IdentifyPlant #PlantIdentification

Plant identification please!
Saw this at the #CentralExperimemtalFarm in #Ottawa #Canada yesterday. Planted in a trough garden in rocks and grit.
Almost spherical clump of about 3cm spiky dark green leaves with a dried seed stalk about 10cm tall sticking out of the top. Small pods with black seeds still inside alternate on the stalk.
Could it be some sort of draba?

I'm eagerly waiting for a nice #thimbleberry patch, not far from my place, to ripen up. #Thimbleberries are my fave #WildBerries & I love eating them every Summer.
Their big, soft, velvety leaves can be used as natural tissues. One of our #NativePlants that provides #food to humans & wildlife. Found in most forest areas across PNW regions.

Shades of Pink: Using my Canon 5D Mark III paired with the Canon MP-E 65mm 5x macro lens, I delved into the intricate details of pink botanical wonders.

Thalictrum aquilegifolium (Akeleiruit)

The first subject, Thalictrum aquilegifolium, commonly known as Akeleiruit, showcased its ethereal lilac-pink flowers. Native to Europe and Asia, this perennial thrives in moist, humus-rich soils, often found in woodland settings. Its feathery blooms, comprised of numerous stamens, create a soft, cloud-like appearance, attracting various pollinators.

Saxifraga hypnoides (Mossteenbreek)

Next, the Saxifraga hypnoides, or Mossteenbreek, presented a contrast with its compact growth and delicate white flowers tinged with pink hues. This alpine plant prefers shaded, rocky environments and is known for its moss-like foliage, which provides a lush green carpet punctuated by its star-shaped blossoms.

Unidentified Pink-Flowering Plant

The final subject remains a mystery—a tall, slender plant adorned with clusters of tiny pink flowers. Initially resembling Lythrum salicaria (kattenstaart), its more compact floral arrangement and elongated stems suggest otherwise.

Capturing these plants required patience and precision, especially given the shallow depth of field inherent to macro photography. Each image reveals the intricate structures and subtle color variations that often go unnoticed.

With the help of some very knowledgeable people online, I finally identified the Pinguicula growing in one of my bog gardens—it's a Pinguicula vulgaris!
It was a gift, but we never knew the exact species—until now. So happy to finally put a name to this beautiful little carnivore.
