@mako I’ve been seeing this too with #NextDNS blocking ad domains.

@josgeluk @rue321 @errpunkterr That's why I use #NextDNS instead of #pihole. Self hosted is great but a hosted DNS blocking service works both at home and away.

¿Alguien puede echarme una mano? Estoy intentando cambiar las DNS del #router para meterle #NextDNS, pero el router de O2 me está dando la lata. He cambiado la DNS como tal pero me sigue indicando que se conecta por Cloudflare todavía. Si intento modificar el IPv6, al guardar los ajustes siempre me elimina los dos últimos caracteres de la dirección, así que entiendo que el problema está ahí...
¿Alguna ayuda para alguien que controla -2 de estos temas? :')

Got issues while keeping #nextdns as global #dns #server in my #tailnet running #headscale.
If I switch to #cloudflare resolver, everything works as expected, but I don't like it this way.
I aslo tried #ad-guard but looks like being not supported at all under headscale.

Any suggestion?

@thevhswizard #NextDNS might be an option. You can configure it to block/allow whatever you like, then set your phone to use it's DNS setting so all traffic gets router through your custom config.

Update: Hier kam grad ein hilfreicher Hinweis rein, daß nextdns ggf. keine gute Idee ist, da ein US Konzern. Jetzt muss ich mich mal neu umsehen -> naw. teste ich #controld -> auch USA, also #pihole.

Me gusta más la opción #SelfHosted pero necesito tener perfiles en los teléfonos de mis hijos y ahí meterles #Tailscale y demás puede producir momentos en los que no vaya bien la cosa. Pero no descarto volver en un futuro no muy lejano

Okay that didn't work at all, apparently the cask of Mullvad VPN was specifically for MacOS.

I was able to get Tailscale installed and linked up with NextDNS which is set-up with ad-filtering...At least, this is what I hope will happen!

As I'm still scratching my head over this one. It will take some time for me to get everything figured out. I'll have to verify that Tailscale and NextDNS are working properly; once more reading is done in order to puzzle out this fiddly stuff!

Plus sérieusement. J'aime beaucoup #NextDNS car il suffit de le configurer en tant que dns privé sur son appareil pour avoir une vue d'ensemble de tout ce que contact de ton appareil en plus de bloquer pas mal de requêtes nuisibles. Je trouve que c'est une bonne application à conserver sur son appareil, dommage qu'elle ne marche pas avec le réseau de la fac

Dernièrement j'ai reconfiguré #nextDNS sur mon smartphone android (vivo x200 pro, ça va avoir de l'importance). Voici le résultat de l'analyse des urls qui partent de l'appareil sur 3j :
- 40000 requêtes (tout confondu)
- 1 requête sur 4 de bloquée par NextDNS
- Sur toutes ces requêtes, 15% étaient pour #google, 13 pour #meta, 0,36 pour Microsoft, O,O3 pour Apple et 0,01 pour amazon avec enfin 71% étant pour d'autres sociétés et services.
Maintenant la partie intéressantes, j'ai plus de 6000 requêtes qui sont parties aux USA, 7000 en France ettttt plus de 2000 en chine 😅
PS: mention honorable à la Pologne qui reçoit 2 requêtes

Depending from how the list of domain parking services is determined, which used to be a static file in a git repository including only 4 companies back in 2020 and is now "internalized" (whatever that means), this might not be anywhere near as comprehensive as you might hope; and may well do nothing at all for the cases highlighted by @briankrebs .

@neil just wanted to say thanks for posting this. This is why I love the fediverse. I've just added #snikket to my homelab stack 👌

My daughter started school this year and is nearing the age where she'll start asking for a phone. For me, snikket is perfect for hosting a small family #xmpp instance. I might actually consider a 'device' for her in the near future.

Of course it'll also be locked down with #NextDNS and likely some other parental control/monitoring tools. But I'm also excited by the idea of my daughter introducing snikket/xmpp to her friends. Despite how practical it might actually be, sharing #foss #privacy and #digitalsovereignty with the younger generation makes it all worth while.
