I cannot remember the last time I've experienced a blackout. ⚡
Parts of #Partick in #Glasgow currently without electricity 😅

Tiny Partick are here to stay”

At thirteen storeys high and supposedly containing over five million bricks, it was one of the largest brick buildings in Europe at the time it was completed. Its demolition removed what had been one of the most recognisable features of the riverside skyline for almost one hundred years.

The Glasgow Harbour Development at sunset. It was built on the early 2000s on the site of the former Meadowside Granary, which was demolished to make way for its construction. The granary itself was built in four phases between 1911 and 1967.

Time for some Glasgow geekiness. This is a rarely encountered Partick Electricity Supply access cover on North Gardner Street in the West End of Glasgow. As far as I can work out, this refers to a local electricity network run by the Burgh of Partick between 1899 and 1912, when the burgh lost its independence and was absorbed into Glasgow.

The 1880s Hyndland Primary School building on Fortrose Street in the West End of Glasgow in yesterday's early morning fog. Originally called the Hamilton Crescent Public School (and this is the name inscribed upon it), it was designed by William Landless.

Good morning, Glasgow. It's a foggy start to the day, but it does make for some atmospheric photographs of the city's tenements, like these ones at Partick Cross.

Absolutely love this beautiful patterned Victorian tile from Partick Lesser Hall in the West End of Glasgow. The building was designed by William Leiper and was built in 1872.

Francis William Doyle Jones' 1922 statue of Peace Crowning the Heroes on the Partick and Whiteinch War Memorial in Victoria Park in the west of Glasgow. You only really notice how beautifully sculpted this statue is, especially the mateiral, when the light hits it in just the right way.

The Victorian Gothic tower of Glasgow University rising above an abandoned industrial site which was once the home of the D. and W. Henderson's Meadowside shipyard in the Partick area of the city. The birds in the foreground are perched on the remains of one of the shipyard's wooden slipways which were used to launch vessels ranging from tramp steamers to luxury ocean liners and America's Cup racing yachts.

Ghost sign in the Partick area of Glasgow. John Curdie and Son was started in Kilmarnock in 1870. John Curdie himself died at age 68 in 1911, but the business carried on. In all, it spanned some four generations of the Curdie family and lasted over a century before closing in the late 1980s.
Another shot of the former Partick Fire Station in the west of Glasgow. Designed by James Miller in an Edwardian Queen Anne Revival style and built in 1906, this is a magnificent building by one of Scotland's greatest, but criminally underappreciated, architects. However, it's now over-shadowed by the 1970s Clydeside Expressway and is just far enough off the beaten track that it's all too easily overlooked by visitors and locals alike.
The Beith Street facade of the former Partick Fire Station in the west of Glasgow. Designed by James Miller in an Edwardian Queen Anne Revival style and built in 1906, this section was the engine house. It was probably one of the last fire stations in the city to be constructed to accommodate horse-drawn fire engines (although Partick wasn't part of Glasgow when it was built).

Peace Crowning the Heroes on the Partick and Whiteinch War Memorial in Victoria Park in the west of Glasgow. Created by Francis William Doye Jones, it was erected in 1922.
Partick Free Church on Crow Road in Glasgow looking rather gorgeous all lit up this evening. Constructed in 1910, this is a beautiful little church building with an unusual finial at its apex.

The Deoch an Dorus on Dumbarton Road in the Partick area of Glasgow. Designed by George Bell, who created a series of Art Nouveau style public houses across the city, it was built for the spirit merchant Robert Anderson and opened in 1904. It was previously known as the Hayburn Vaults, after the Hay Burn, a small stream which used to run through this part of Glasgow.

Love this sign on Gardner Street in the West End of Glasgow. For those who don't know, with a gradient of around 10%, this section of Gardner Street is notorious as being one of the steepest in the city. The sign is the work of the Glasgow-based guerilla artist A Sign of Humour.
