Once that was done I pulled out a new-to-me #patternmaking book and drafted a new body block.

I learned patternmaking in the 90s, and I've still got the aldrich books, but in recent years I never had much luck, they don't seem to translate well to plus sizes.

This 'new' book is 'Pattern Drafting for Dressmaking' by Pamela Stringer, a kiwi, no less, and this new block is marvellous. I don't think I've ever had a block just *work* for me before.

If you can get hold of a copy, I recommend it.

Both front and back side panels are now drawn and ready to be cut out. Final piece to cut out is the center front, and then the pattern is complete. When I actually sew one up, I will need to cut some bias tape for the neckline, but that's about it.

Center back dress piece has now been traced and extended 13" from the previous hem following the side seam lines to allow for a longer dress with a new hemline.

Now moving on to the main body pieces. This is the center back of the dress. I generally prefer skirts to be longer than this one, so I will extend the length of the pattern about a foot. This will be about ankle length for me. I will go ahead and mark a cut line where the dress ends on the pattern in case I wish to make a shorter one. Adjusting hems is a very simple process.
