More boot cleaning, this time my garden boots. My garden boots are usually my previous pair of walking boots, retired from use when the sole gets too worn (isn't that what we all want!). As well as #gardening, I use them for hanging out the washing, feeding the birds, fetching stuff from the shed etc. Basically just boots I shove on to go in the garden, so the laces are permanently tied loosely. I didn't want to untie them as they're just the right tightness, so I conditioned the leather underneath, but didn't polish there.
They're not necessarily waterproof on the sole, but it was feeling that the leather was needing a bit of waterproofing. They haven't been cleaned since they were retired to the garden about two years ago.

More mending tonight but no photos because it is literally impossible to take photos of black thread mending black silk leggings also now my eyeballs hurt.
We did most of the work on this several months ago, but last night Fern finally finished the last patch! It is now ready to (go through the wash because it smells stale and then) be used until it needs another patch. And then we'll patch it again. 😊
It may seem incredible to Da Youf, but once upon a time, you could buy clothes in the mall and simply wear them for a decade or so.
This shirt is almost 30 years old.
It is made of hard-wearing wool, and because hard-wearing wool is itchy, it had silk lining at the cuffs and collar, where it was likely to touch the wearer.
I've had to rebind some buttonholes, resew some buttons, and replace the silk.
Intergenerational mending Sunday School was fun! I taught some kids and adults some fundamentals. Others used the space to work on things that needed mending. We told stories. One of today's customers learned the hard way that sewing through your finger is bad for you AND the machine. 😱
Unfortunately, the machine will need a little more than a bandage, but it's still totally fixable.

There was an inspiring post I saw recently about mending a plastic laundry basket by drilling holes on either side of a crack and then tying the sides of the crack together.
The old cracked basket we temporarily fill with recycling turned out to have a structure that made that method impractical, but once I had the basket in my lap, I realized I had a roll of duck tape handy. That turned out to do the trick nicely.
One more cracked laundry basket to go!
One broken nock replaced, and I demonstrated how to replace fletchings. Leave them to it now, but we'll need to borrow an arrow jig for one arrow. If the arrow still has two fletchings we can replace the third by resting it on the remaining two and positioning the new one directly up. But we have an arrow missing two fletchings, so more difficult to position the replacements.
