Schillernd wie ein Juwel und dennoch ein echter Parasit – diese Goldwespe nutzt fremde Nester, um ihren Nachwuchs großzuziehen. Statt selbst zu bauen, legt sie ihre Eier bei anderen Wespen- oder Bienenarten ab. Die Larve frisst dann die Wirtslarve und deren Vorräte – ziemlich clever, wenn auch ein bisschen fies.

Well, there are two upsides to this: a nice building has been preserved and one has another nice photo spot.

That said, I still have mixed feelings to what the city of #Antwerp did with the #Havenhuis. To quote someone whom I showed my photos: "It is as if a giant extra-terrestrial ship has landed and laid a giant egg..."

The Havenhuis is a former #firestation that was used until the late nineties for the #harbour of Antwerp nearby. The lower section is a replica of a former Hanseatic house (neo-traditional style) and got protected status. Since it could not be demolished, Port of Antwerp decided to write out a competition to which an Iraqi-British architect, Zaha Hadid, won. On top of the building came an upper section in concrete and glass in the form of a ship (reference to the harbour) with the glass in #diamond sections (reference to Antwerp as a major diamond trading city.)

B/W photo of a woman going upstairs. The stairs occupy the right half of the photo ending up in a door with a balcony and continuing after that. Electric wires crawling around the wall and ceiling, which would make a firefighter get an immediate heart attack.

Talkong about a coincidence. I don't know why I took a photo of people on the tram, maybe because the man with the beard stook out? In any case, it was a surprise to see him sit an hour later feeding the pigeons in the park.
