#pocof1

But as a glimmer of light, I have good news. I'll soon start working on getting xiaomi-beryllium (poco f1) to work with postmarketOS, in this case it means fixing broken buttons to unbrick the device.

#postmarketos #pocof1 #linuxphone #linuxmobile

I can finally work on it (managed to unlock my device's bootloader and currently the kernel is flashing)

#postmarketos #pmos #linuxmobile #pocof1 #pocophonef1 #xiaomi #linux

@valhalla @praveen it also depends on the hardware, doesn't it?

#Debian on a #PocoF1 is very much a smartphone, but if you put the same label to Debian on a #Beepy it won't quite live up to expectations

Unfortunately, many people have the impression that "being small with a physical numpad" and "capable of running complex applications" are mutually exclusive resulting in most manufacturers not giving good specs to such devices. So in practice #KaiOS phones are closer to feature phones 😕

@seshpenguin @espidev wait, is that webcam connected through USB-C? Which device supports that? (My #PocoF1 didn't but maybe my knowledge is outdated)

Wow I've never seen this before! Usually the whole shell just freezes up or something unless I quickly SSH and kill or something. Definitely an improvement 😅️

#Phosh #Mobian #MobileLinux #PocoF1

A notification on the Phosh shell from saying "Application Stopped". The notification is from gnome-settings-daemon and the description says "Device memory is nearly full. An application was using a lot of memory and was forced to stop."

They said #XMPP was connected to #xampu, so I made some! 😇

Hair is personal. Messaging should be too :xmpp:

The owner of Beeja Botanicals is my former classmate, and she's used the shampoo herself, so I know it's good! The first batch is ready and will be available for purchase at #PravConf (or will be, once I've finished wrapping it all 😅)

PS: flyer designed with #Inkscape, and photo taken with #Megapixels on #Mobian on the #PocoF1! :inkscape: :debian:

A round shampoo bar wrapped with the XMPP logo, sitting on top of a flyer that will be displayed in detail in the next picture.Flyer. Full text follows, along with a description of accompanying images:

[The XMPP logo] Introducing xampu, the XMPP themed shampoo bar!

What if your shampoo brand forced you to hang out only with people who use the same brand of shampoo? [Two people with focus lines on their hair. A lightning bolt strikes between them]

We think such restrictions are as absurd for messaging apps as they would be for hair products. [Similarly, two speech bubbles with a lightning bolt betwixt]

XMPP is a common language (protocol) that different chat services can use to talk to each other. [Image of many connected speech bubbles]

[Green banner saying] XMPP stands for "eXtensible Messaging and Presence Protocol". Since both those are a mouthful, people in Brazil have taken to affectionately pronouncing it xampu—which means shampoo.

[A rabbit] This shampoo bar by Beeja Botanicals is hand made using natural ingredients. It is free from harmful products like SLS and paraben, and contains no animal-tested products.

Like making your own shampoo, running your own chat server allows you to address local ethical and technical issues—more privacy? solar powered? larger upload size? integrated login?—that matter to you.

Not everyone has the time and energy to make shampoo, or to run their own XMPP server. Proceeds from this shampoo bar will go towards funding Prav, which operates XMPP services so you don't have to. [A pigeon]

Just used my #Bangalore #metro card to pay for my #bus ticket in #Chennai. Public transport in #TN has taken a step up! 🎉 🤸

(So has surveillance, unfortunately, as the CCTVs on that bus were quick to remind me 😑)

Photo taken with #Mobian on the #PocoF1

#NammaMetro #NCMC #MTC
Photograph of a town bus ticket next to a metro card.

The ticket is a white almost-square thermal-printed receipt, a bus ticket for Chennai's Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC). The source and destination are the somewhat truncated "Women's Polyte..." and "Navallur Church", and the price reads "Ru. 29.00" in Tamil followed by "NCMC" in parentheses.

The card is a portrait-oriented credit-card-sized card with Bangalore's "Namma Metro" logo on one corner and the logo of RBL Bank in the other. Below it is a picture of a metro train. Overlaid on the top right corner of this image is the vertical text "One Nation, One Card", and on the top left (under the RBL Bank logo) is the NCMC logo of an orange right-pointing triangle overlapping a green one, with WiFi style bars radiating out from the tip of the triangles. Right at the bottom, below the picture, you can see the word "Platinum" written vertically, the logo for something called "AGS", an EMV security chip (again vertical, to align with the shape of a "normal" card), and finally the "RuPay Prepaid" logo.

On the corners of this photo (the main photo, not the photo in the card) are three local-train tickets.

Over- and under-exposed well-stocked #roadside store in #Malleswaram, #Bengaluru. If anyone tells you "everything is online nowadays", show them this!

Photos taken with #Megapixels on the #PocoF1, with no post-processing apart from whatever happens by default. The white balance was manually adjusted but first too high and then too low—there wasn't enough time to get it to "just right"
A room with wall-high shelves on all sides. Some sacks are stacked in front, and the shopkeeper is counting something among them. The whole image is green and overexposed. The same room, but dark and underexposed. The shopkeeper has gone to one of the shelves at the back of the shop and is looking down at something on one of the lower shelves. The picture is a bit out of focus so you can't really see what's on the shelves: it looks like books but it's actually boxes and cans of various supplies.

#Camera support for the #PocoF1 just dropped in #mobian! There's still work to be done, but hey, we're making good progress 🎉️🎈️

PSA: the final image turns out better than the preview. Remember to manually set the ISO for best results 🔧️

The photos here are taken without and with flash respectively—or, should I say, with the torch activated from the quick menu 🔦️

I haven't set up postprocessing, but maybe these themselves can form their own aesthetic! #BerryLin, anyone? :linux: :debian: :phosh:

Screenshot of the Megapixels camera app in Phosh displaying a maneki-neko (lucky cat), a wireless earphone case, and a lock and key, all sitting on a desk. The image has a lot of static lines running across and the colours are dull to the point of being nearly grey.A photo of the same maneki-neko, earphone case, and lock and key. The lighting is a bit better though dull and yellow like old photographs, and there is no static. The same maneki-neko, earphone case, and lock and key, but with whiter and brighter lighting. The background still has yellow around the edges.

how can i save more battery on my #pocof1 with #postmarketos and phosh?

when i had lineage installed on this, it reported that my battery life is around 62%.

2024-11-10

@AnimeAndVisial well my #PocoF1 lasts about 8 hours per charge, so you shouod probably carry a power bank like I did. There are also some quirk peculiar to my phone like not being able to receive calls on suspend and no camera drivers, but if you get an actual designed-for-Linux phone like the #PinePhone or #Librem those are not issues (besides maybe the battery life)

If you don't need full mainline, @praveen can probably tell you more about the #Droidian based #FuriPhoneFLX1

Arrived about half an hour ago with @bady and @kannan. Photo courtesy *not* my #PocoF1 of course 📸️

Okay I'm back after the first leg of the journey. I'd put the phone on suspend for a while which also stonewalls calls and SMSes but informs me when I wake it up (#PocoF1 bug, or, shall I say, feature)

Here's a demonstration of the cellular being switched off. in #Phosh. The mobile data toggle thing is. now working fine by the way

#Mobian

By the way here's the event link:

nexus.sjcetpalai.ac.in/fossday

I realised one disadvantage of going out is there are bright places where I have to crank up the backlight. Well, at least most of my travelling this time is at night 😎️

I forgot to test mobile data before leaving (someone on the #mobian channel had trouble with that on their #PocoF1 recently) but as you can see it's working fine! Phew 📶

Screenshot of me composing this post on the Tuba app. You can see from the status bar that the phone is connected to 4G.

Getting ready for my first long (2 days) outing carrying #Mobian on the #PocoF1! :debian:

Battery is at 99% and I'm keeping it plugged in till I leave, in about 15 minutes. Also carrying a power bank as backup 🔋

I'll be updating more on this thread as things progress, now that I can 😉️

Where I'm going: to participate in the @prav related panel discussion at #FOSSDay in #Palai, #Kerala :xmpp:
