On the Easter weekend, right on the first day of a new shooting season, I got a few shots of this roebuck. Or, quite many, actually—he seemed chill and even took a quick nap on the field, knowing I was there, too.
Crawling slowly and patiently on the ground helped get these shots—and it was nice to learn only afterwards from my fiancée's cat that ticks were already out of hibernation.

Walking on roads through the open forestry land near us means solitude. I rarely meet a soul. The dog and I have the place to ourselves. No sheep or cattle here and so Brodie can be off the lead. Freedom to roam means peace and quiet. We did see a Roe Deer yesterday. He stood quietly staring at us. I took a photograph before he leapt into the trees and was gone. A moment of complete happiness.

The roe is a small deer, reddish and grey-brown, and well-adapted to cold environments. The species is widespread in Europe, from the Mediterranean to Scandinavia, from Scotland to the Caucasus, and east to northern Iran and Iraq.” None in this photograph but we did see one on the edge of these woods you can see at the side of the frame.

Ein „Einhorn“ beim Ruhen.
Dem kleinen fehlt eine Stange seines Gehörns. Die andere steckt noch gut versteckt unter dem Bast. Perfekt getarnt liegt er auf der Lichtung und sonnt sich.
