I’ve never seen software developers more eager to put their apps into #Flathub and showing the middle finger to Ubuntu #Snapstore.
What the fuck they did wrong to piss off more than half of Linux developers?

Un petit short sur l'échec de mise à jour Snap-Store de Ubuntu.
Ubuntu user experience: I‘m using Ubuntu desktop for the first time in ages. It has come some way, but it‘s still not quite there. When installing Snaps there is no way to see all in progress downloads. 1Password snap crashes on start up with an error about missing libatk. debs can‘t be installed out of the box. It should be possible to get an app like 1Password running w/o these kind of issues.

I successfully got a large Ruby CLI app packaged as a Snap and uploaded to the Snap store. Unfortunately, I had to workaround a lot of issues and quirks (ex: their ruby plugin depends on core18, which is super old and uses Ruby 2.7). The Snap Ruby DX could be *much* better. I really wish Snap was a turn-key truly cross platform solution for distributing Ruby apps (macOS is temporarily not supported), but it's not there yet.

Snap Store Website Has Been Redesigned
Stop by the Snap Store website today you’ll see it’s undergone a revamp, and the second design rejig to the online storefront in the past 12 months is more substantive than the first. The search bar is now shorter and incorporated into the header section (which also drops the “Search thousands of snaps used by millions of people across 41 Linux distributions” strap line its shown since 2019). The “Featured snaps” section remains at the top of the content area but is no longer topped by a featured banner graphic. Icon, title, uploader, and description for each of featured snap :sys_more_orange:

If you are an Ubuntu user and cannot switch distros, I suggest you follow this guide (thanks to It's FOSS) on removing Snap and all Snap apps.
Note:
This guide also suggests how you can prevent Snaps from reinstalling (including installing Firefox, without Snap). However, Canonical Ubuntu has tried to undo people from blocking Snaps. This makes Snaps seem more like unwanted bloatware, similar to Windows, since they're actively trying to "force" people to use their apps and services. Overall, you should switch distros, and consider this "fix" at one that works "for now" (temporary solution). The long-term solution seems to be to find a new distro, not built from Ubuntu.

Remove, Snap. -- WHY?
Canonical Ubuntu's Snap has hosted more scam apps than Microsoft Store, Apple Store, Google Play Store, or Flatpak. -- Let that sink in.
If you're a Linux user, use Flatpak. Do not use or trust Snap. Ubuntu refuses to conduct proper reviews, and it's getting scary. Do not trust Snaps.

https://linuxiac.com/snap-store-now-requires-manual-review-for-the-apps/
Good news, the snap store now requires manual review of all apps. This on the heels of several problems with malicious apps making it onto the store.
I personally am still not a fan of the snap format, but I give credit where it's do, they are making the changes necessary to make the platform safer for everyone, instead of ignoring to problem like some Big-Tech companies I could name.
