John Scales Avery (1933-2024) was an American theoretical chemist. In his book "Civilization's Crisis" he argues that civilization as a whole faces a set of linked challenges. #ClimateChange is caused by consumption of non-renewable #FossilFuels but it is just one aspect of a bigger crisis. I'm a lecturer at Tufts University, teaching courses in GIS, Food Systems Modeling, and Agricultural and Environmental Modeling.

My past research has included various forms of computer #modeling, including #SystemDynamics, and #GIS. I'm a strong believer in #interdisciplinary research and #stakeholder engagement as tools for improving and democratizing science.
