I don't know how to say this in an important way as it needs to be.

#Transition is an exploration.

You're venturing into unknown territory. You might have seen things from afar, and heard stories. But you, on your journey, have no idea where it will go, what you will encounter, and where you will end up.

No amount of preparation will be enough or adequate. There may be some things that are common enough that general advice can help you around. But mostly, you will find that your transition will be one of surprises. The constant is "expect the unexpected", so the best preparation may be an attitude of flexibility at what presents itself to you.

There is no way to be "sure enough" of anything. Professionals, your social circle, even you yourself will come up with arbitrary demands of you being sure about doing something. How could you be. These are all things that you've been denied. You're a kid raised on vinegar and mustard, and now you're wandering into an All You Can Eat icecream, sweets, chocolate, and cake buffet. Of course you can't be sure that this specific ice cream is what you want, you don't know how it tastes, or if something else will taste better! All you can trust is the longing when you encounter something. Have a taste, but don't feel compelled to stick with it. Have two or three tastes, because the strange taste might have to settle in your brain.

At some point, you will find a place in all this where you want to sit. Because that place is fine. Are you done yet? Who knows? Transition never ends, as long as you breathe and allow yourself to experience and grow. After all, we find those old people the coolest who try something new when society deems them "too old" for anything but lounging in front of the TV wearing beige. Statistically speaking, if you transition, you're already a total outlier. It makes no sense for you to conform, and it's a recipe for unhappiness if you try, because you're years behind the curve of "should be". So lean into that, and go your own way.

still miss my old friend P. fellow travellers. met at same support & resource service. attended same weekly support group. broadly speaking, had similar timelines for our various surgeries. chose same country, but different surgeons [back then in the 00s the choice was rich pickings].

she was far more outgoing than i was & am, a real entrepreneur to boot, started up several businesses [as her real self, not the hideous charade we all had to play in The Before Times]. one time, post all our surgeries, in that three year period where i was really trying to make it work before i gave up & began hermitting, she took me to a brilliant cafe at the bottom of a steep street somewhere on the waterfront in woolloomooloo. she'd told me the staff there were magnificent, & they were; such a happy few hours.

i'll never know for certain why she eventually walked off the stage, but i have some insights that might have been causal.
- i know she never got over the super acrimonious breakup caused by her ex, who then used the beloved infant daughter as a weapon; so unfair, so hurtful.
- also, i do believe that P made a serious strategic error in timing her own #transition. i made sure that the tedious takes-forever multi-year #electrology beeswax was the first part of my journey... coz the "cruelty" of this phase is that you must let the accursed hairs grow each week/fortnight/month to be adequately visible to the electrologist for accurate insertion of the electrodes to do the zapping, adjacent to each follicle. P skipped this step in her rush to "get on with it", meaning that later, post all her other procedures & surgeries, including being very visibly enhanced by her #HRT [unlike me, to whom it did fuck all], & being very out-there by dint of her personality & entrepreneurship, she was effectively trapped into "never" being then able to do the electrology... ie, eternally at the mercy of those arseholic follicles. i knew, long before i learned of her suicide, that this was getting her down [to vanillas, i realise you might not "get it", but to us, such is just more of the agonising torment].

i'm so lucky we crossed paths, P, & wish it'd been much better for you. 💟

#Queensland parliament has voted to kill its legislated #renewables targets, despite a last-minute attempt to rename it the “Propping Up #Coal and Delaying Renewables Amendment Act 2025”.

The bill also repeals a development approval for a #windfarm near #Gympie, the Forest windfarm. It replaces Labor’s targets with the #LNP’s energy policy, which would extend the operation of the state’s government-owned coal generators past their planned closure dates.

Maiwar MP #MichaelBerkman moved amendments to rename the bill, saying the government was “pouring literally billions of dollars into propping up ageing coal-fired #powerstations, keeping them on life support potentially beyond 2050”:

“The LNP is pitching their roadmap as pragmatism but I am pretty sure pouring billions more taxpayer dollars into keeping ageing #coalfiredpowerstations open for longer while delaying the #transition to renewable energy is not pragmatism, it is plain stupidity.”

During debate, assistant minister #BrysonHead [Dick to those who know him] told the parliament that he loved coal and accused #Labor and the #Greens of “propping up renewables”.

“The beauty about our plan is that the cheapest form of power will ultimately win … the beauty about a free market is that the cheapest and best value good always wins,” he said.

Berkman’s amendment was shot down and the bill passed just before 9.30pm, both on party lines.

in the 90s, i had to go to merka twice, many weeks at a time, for training at some of my small merkan multinational employer's sites

in the early to mid 00s i underwent my full #transition, over a three year period, whilst working for the ginormous merkan multinational that had in the meanwhile bought my hitherto employer. they were empathic & supportive of me throughout, for which i remained ever grateful, notwithstanding their frequently stupid merkan corporate culture & practices

over recent years i have often played a mind-game with myself, as i observe merka's descent into failed state status, a horrific fascist dystopia of hatred, violence, & idiocy, & ask myself "what would you have done, Droppie, if the timing had been different, such that you had been required to travel to that evil hellhole as it is now, in your post-transition sadly-unpassing present state?" ofc i am certain beyond a shadow of doubt i would have refused outright, so i wonder what that would have done to my employment, my career, my... well, lots of stuff.

I don't reflect upon this often enough, but I am SO stoked to live within #Australia's medical system, as flawed as it is.

Public health gender services at #RWBH in #Brisbane took a trauma-minimising approach toward my #transition. Rather than taking the intervention that my naieve 37-year-old had presumed - top surgery & breast implants - they gently educated me that maybe #hormones would be worth thinking about, and that oestrogen doesn't impact testosterone production or erectile function at low doses.

Cut to 4.5 years later and I am living joyfully and fully integrated in my #enby #trans body - no prosthetics, natural 'A' cup #breasts - taking 6.75mg oestrogen & 200mg progesterone daily. My hormonal system is that of a "normal" cis female. My sex drive was decimated in years 2-3, but I have learned to drive this new vehicle in ways that have surprised and delighted me.

Thanks, 'Straya. You're fucked up, but in this aspect you've done me a great service.
