@Gammitin yeah, #TinyCore is nice...

@jbqueru and even then there are a lot of #distros that should be portable to #RISCv like @bunsenlabs / #BunsenLabs #Linux and #TinyCore.

I just don't have an #OrangePi #RV2 to target against...

I've just updated my Tinycore distro to the latest version and of course am playing with it again. So much fun!

#VM #Virtualization #QEMU #OpenSource #TinyCore #Linux #POSIX

The image shows a QEMU VM interface with three terminal windows open. The terminals displays Linux command-line interfaces with various system information and processes. The top left terminal window shows the output of the 'uptime' command, indicating the system has been running for 21 hours and 18 minutes, with a load average of 0.17, 0.35, and 0.18. The top right terminal window is empty, with a cursor visible. The bottom window displays the output of the 'top' command, listing various processes with their PIDs, user, status, CPU usage, and command names. The system appears to be running a minimal Linux distribution, with a few processes running, including 'Vesa', 'top', and 'udev'. The desktop background is a gradient of blue shades, and the taskbar at the bottom shows icons for various applications.

Playing a little with QEMU running the TinyCore Linux distro

#VM #Virtualization #QEMU #OpenSource #TinyCore

The image shows a QEMU virtual machine interface with a blue gradient background. In the top left corner, there is a terminal window displaying a Linux command-line interface. The terminal shows the output of several commands, including "pwd" which returns "/home/tc", "whoami" which returns "tc", and "cat /proc/cpuinfo" which provides detailed information about the CPU, such as the processor, vendor ID, CPU family, model name, and frequency. The terminal window is titled "tcbox[@]tcbox:~$". The bottom of the screen features a desktop bar with icons for various applications, including a paintbrush, a text editor, a terminal, and a file manager. The word "core" is prominently displayed in the center of the screen, stylized with a globe icon replacing the letter 'o'. The overall layout and design suggest a minimalistic and functional user interface.

@millihertz no.

Just honestly pointing at the free all-you-can-take buffet with everything from #TinyCore to @bunsenlabs to #UbubtuLTSโ€ฆ

@OS1337 @Yuki @bjornsdottirs well, it does work given aggressive #xz compression.

Problem is rather to shove more on a 1440kB FDD than initramfs+kernel.

Tho a bootfloppy w/ #syslinux that then bootstraps multiple splitted initramfs parts in RAM from multiple disks should be possible.

#TinyCore shows that a minimalist distro can be featureful!

I think I've finally graduated from #linux college.

I've got an old Sony Vaio with 2gb ram and a piss-poor CPU. I tried everything on it. #openbsd, #alpineliux, #tinycore, #antixlinux.. but at the end of the day, it's just slow. So I settled on Alpine with no graphical session. I've been living in the TTY for about 2 weeks now and I gotta say.. who needs a GUI?

With #tmux as my window(pane) manager, I'm able to do everything I need it to.

#TinyCore #Linux is stunning. Here it is running successfully on a 1999 Sony VAIO with a single 333Mhz Celeron processor and 128Mb RAM.

Getting it booted was no effort; burn a CDROM and boot from it. Setting up wireless networking using an ancient D-Link branded WiFi USB dongle was a different story, but I got it working in the end.

That's the #Dillo browser running in the foreground!

A landscape photo in artificial light of my Sony VAIO PCG-N505X with the PCMCIA CDROM plugged in on one side and a chonky D-Link WiFi USB stick on the other.

The screen is showing several overlapping windows. The top one is the Dillo browser displaying the Tiny Core homepage.

And yes, just sent the #inxi 3.3.37 package off to #TinyCore - which is the last step of the process.

So that completes this 4 month release cycle. It would have been less but the monitor scaling feature of course turned into a rabbit hole.

But read the changelog if you are curious. It's long and thorough by design because it's the actual record of what changed, why, and what isn't currently doable. I use it often to find when why and how features are added or removed or changed.

A moss covered tree bark with a red and black gloved finger pointing to a tiny white capped mushroom

Cutting willow for wreaths yesterday and spotted these tiny mushrooms and moss growing on the old pollarded willow tree.

4 tiny white mushrooms growing on a willow tree bark, two kinds of moss are also growing around it.
2 mushrooms are close together in the centre of the frame, a further two mushrooms emerge from the bark behind the first two. A rosette type green moss is growing in patches including between the sets of mushrooms, a thinner tendril type moss is growing on the bark above the mushrooms.

#tinyCore #planets #littleWorld #LichenSubscribe

A photo showing a gall covered in lichen. A human hand holds the branch giving scale, it's about 2cm in diameter. The background is a green foresty blur.

A dull light green and pale yellow-green mottled globe emerging from the stem of a plant. It's a study in textures applied to a spherical form. Some lichen are flakey, like petals, others, spindly like forked tongues, there are little black hairs and scabby textured patches: the continents of another world. The lichens are consuming the house a sneaky wasp induced the plant to grow for her larvae.

The wasp is long gone, and the procession of life continues.
