Just kidding. I just checked the power usage of my #TrueNAS server and it's average is now above 100watts with the addition of PiHole.

The literal embodiment of freedom (from ads) is not free.

Copying my music to USB stick takes a very looong time.

Copying it a folder on my #TrueNAS server takes a lot less time.
(Though the completion estimates are out of their minds.)

Whats your approach for VMs (in #Proxmox or any other hypervisor) with large (1-2TB) Storage needs?

Currently I have an virtual #TrueNAS (with hardware pass-thru) which provides NFS/SMB Mounts for the other VMs. But this is not always possible depending on the hardware.

And creating large vDisks feels wrong.

Does #TrueNAS have a file sync app like #Synology Drive? I see the #NextCloud has one but looks like they're just never going to get it working on Android. And the #QNAP one only supports Ubuntu.

I don't want to stick with Synology with all the recent fuckery, but it seems like nothing else has file sync done as well as they do.

I worry how much power my #TrueNAS server draws. (Dell #T430 ) I get a 115w peak every week or so, then averaging around 84 watts.

Sheesh, is that too much?

Then I look at the max of 1700watts and figure I could be doing much worse.

(Are there more efficient boxes? yes. Are their easier ones to setup? No.)

This might sound crazy to the TrueNAS Scale developers, but I'd like to be able to view the logs for an application after it has stopped, y'know so I can determine why it stopped, especially when it has crashed.

My TrueNAS computer (HP Z420) is beeping non-stop. The TrueNAS interface doesn’t show anything wrong, I’ve rebooted and it’s still beeping. (Maybe I should try a shutdown?)

I don’t know enough about PC hardware to know what’s going on…

does anyone have advice about #Cloud #Backups for #TrueNAS #Storage? I don’t have any experience with cloud computing so far, but I researched #AWS #S3 Buckets seem to be the go-to. I want that the #Backup Solution to be easy to integrate into #TrueNAS and hosted by a European Provider. Anything else to keep in mind? Thanks for help :)

Pues gracias a este episodio de @desdeelreloj https://www.desdeelreloj.com/e1229/ de @vidalpascual (O debería decir "por culpa de" 😅 ) me he animado a montar mi propio servidor de #Proxmox y #TrueNAS como servidor de backups. He ido estas semanas recopilando piezas antiguas de ordenadores viejos y comprando algunas nuevas. Finalmente creo que ya lo tengo todo y queda algo tal que así:

Hetzner DNS is not directly supported, but a shell script creating the needed challenge txt records. Quick hack with hcloud cli, but it's working.

Mit Cloudflare bist du dann schon wieder nicht mehr souverän, da US-Unternehmen. #pangolin könnte was für dich sein.

Bei Synology würde ich auch vorsichtig sein. Sie pushen ihre Cloud Accounts und haben einen Vendor-Login für Festplatten versucht.

Evtl. einfach einen alten Office-PC mit zwei HDDs oder SSDs bestücken. Habe einen alten Dell Optiplex 9010, der im idle mit 14W so sparsam wie eine Syno ist. Mit #truenas

Docker und so geht bei der Syno IMHO nur mit x86.
