Hallo meine lieben Lebensformen,

Hello my dear life forms,

Today I’ve brought you a spotted redshank from Italy.
I think it's one of the most beautiful waders (shorebirds).

Animals are friends, not food or a nuisance.
Stay healthy, happy and in love.

The most terrible pain in the soul is wanderlust.

Borrowing this from Wader Quest's fb page.
"This is a fantastic video, it's about the relatively recent and vital discovery of the importance of biofilm, that green slime on the surface of mudflats.
It seems that this substance is invaluable to migrating waders and, in this case, particularly to the delightful Western Sandpiper, a declining species. The video highlights their reliance on this food source for their very survival. Without it, they would be malnourished, meaning most would not be able to complete their migration and many would simply die. This would cause a decline in the population since, as a species. they would not be able to breed in sufficient numbers to maintain the population, which ultimately could lead to their extinction. Roberts Bank in British Columbia, Canada is a globally classified Important Bird Area and a key stopover for Western Sandpipers. Distressingly, its mudflats and their biofilm covering, are threatened by the proposed expansion of the Fraser Port Authority, the so-called Roberts Bank T-2 development. If allowed to go ahead this would mean additional significant habitat loss that would further endanger the species. This situation typifies a wider crisis affecting waders across the planet, highlighting the urgent need for collaboration among researchers, conservationists, and communities to protect these vital ecosystems, and the species that use them, which are becoming increasingly at risk of extinction."

Little Valley Creek, PA
- tributary of the Valley Creek

I rarely wear chest waders, as I mostly prefer hip waders for convenience 😉
But, yesterday, I wore waist waders, which are my favorite 😊
What are your favorite?

A view of a small creek from the near bank. A large rock rests on the far bank, surrounded by trees standing tall along the bank. A fallen tree stretches across the stream, with a fly rod on it, while another fallen tree arches between the rock and the first fallen tree. A third fallen tree bridges the gap between the rock and a standing tree.

🌍 Yellow-billed stork (Mycteria ibis)

The yellow-billed stork is a striking medium-sized stork found across sub-Saharan Africa and Madagascar. It's easily identified by its bright yellow bill, mostly white plumage, and red face. They inhabit wetlands, floodplains, and rivers. These storks hunt by touch, wading through water and snapping their bills shut when they encounter prey like fish or crustaceans. They often gather in large flocks, particularly during breeding season, and can be seen nesting in trees near water sources.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)

A gorgeous poser, and even more beautiful to watch, the Black-winged stilt, with its striking long pink legs is often found in the wetlands, wading alone or in groups. #blackwingedstilt #birds #birdwatching #birding #wildlife #wildlifeconservation #waders #nature #wetlands

🌎 Snowy egret (Egretta thula)

The snowy egret is a small, elegant heron found in the Americas. It is known for its striking appearance, with a slender white body, long black legs, and a distinctive plume of feathers on its head and neck during the breeding season. Snowy egrets inhabit a variety of wetland habitats, including marshes, swamps, and coastal areas. They feed on fish, amphibians, crustaceans, and insects, using their sharp beaks to catch prey in shallow water.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)
