Mozilla released its AI manifesto yesterday & I finally had time to read it. It sounds good on the surface. However, I'm curious about the "20% yearly growth in non-search revenue" objective - is it related to user activity / data monetization? In any case, it's worth a read if you're either a Firefox or Thunderbird user.

Hackread: Comet Browser Flaw Lets Hidden API Run Commands on Users’ Devices. “Security researchers from web browser security firm SquareX have issued a public warning after uncovering a vulnerability in Perplexity’s Comet AI browser. Their research, published on November 19, 2025, reveals a hidden feature that could allow cybercriminals complete control over a user’s computer.”

How many browsers do you have installed on your computer?

MakeUseOf: Before you install an AI browser, read this . “I am all for competition, especially in a space that has basically become a monopoly. But after actually using some of these so-called AI browsers, I am not convinced. I tried the new ChatGPT Atlas browser for about a week before removing it, and that pretty much pushed me into looking deeper into the whole category. The more I looked, […]

@loren

The old Konqueror KDE web browser still exists, and it works, but lacks ad blockers.

Improving upon that, KDE now ships Falkon, an open source web browser with a built-in ad blocker, but for example doesn't block ads on youtube.

Frankly it's hard to improve upon text-only browsers like lynx or elinks, but then these never run javascript nor showed images, which is often a good feature but not suited for most of the modern web.

For the modern web, Vivaldi, but has a core that isn't open source (who knows what that does), and relies on non-tracking advertisement for funding. Or Firefox with EFF's Privacy Badger, ublock-origin, and DuckDuckGo Privacy essentials addons, plus careful editing of its settings to get rid of "AI" nonsense.

@privacyguides Similarly, #webbrowsers with a #Big Tech search engine as the default should not even qualify to be on a poll like this.

I use Firefox. I have mostly missed its new “AI features,” but a good post by Cybrkid alerted me to Firefox’s newest in-development AI “feature”: AI Window. Cybrkid is (correctly) nonplussed about this new feature and linked to good critiques in the official Mozilla forum. I learned more about what the AI Window will do in a favorable post on It’s Foss (with which I disagree). I submit for the record that if people have to go into About:Config to fully disable a new feature, I would not call it entirely opt in. Unlike Cybrkid, I am not looking to leave Firefox at the moment. I appreciate that I can disable unwanted “features” and that uBlock Origin works as expected in Firefox. But I will submit my own objection to the AI window. Souraw Rudra explains the AI Window by staying that “[i]t is basically [Mozilla’s] way of keeping up with Chrome and Edge, both of which have gone all-in on AI.” Firefox cannot “keep up” with Chrome and Edge. People have to go out of their way to use Firefox instead of Chrome and Edge. Focus on how to deliver a good product to people who are looking for an alternative to Chrome (even Microsoft understands that no one cares about Edge). Leave AI to browser extensions.

"Others, like #Mozilla, follow a different development guideline: introduce #AI into the #browser, but make it an optional feature. Users who do not want to use AI should be able to turn the features off or, at the very least, not see them advertised over and over again."

" • AI won't be forced into the #BrowsingExperience of users.
#Firefox won't lock users into a single #AIEcosystem."

The Verge: Mozilla announces an AI ‘window’ for Firefox. “Firefox says it is building an AI browsing feature called AI Window that includes an AI assistant and chatbot. The company calls it an opt-in ‘intelligent and user-controlled space’ that is currently being built ‘in the open’ with user input.” Mozilla kills Pocket but carries on with this nonsense.

Lifehacker: Chrome’s New ‘Split View’ Is Now My Favorite Way to Use the Internet. “It works exactly as you might guess from the name: Split View enables you to have two sites or apps open in the same tab, so you can, for example, dive deep into a Lifehacker article while also keeping an eye on social media. It works much better than just having two Chrome windows up side-by-side in Windows or […]

I used to use Firefox, but their CEO and marketing people were such complete (can't say that word here) that I switched to Safari.

For a while I used Microsoft Edge, but then they started adding bullshit.

Now I think I'm going to stick with Safari thanks to how great Apple's Passwords app is. I'd love to use Orion instead, but the integration isn't as good. #WebBrowsers

What's the most important feature you look for in a web browser? For me, it's organisation and customisation. In my latest post, I share my journey from Arc to Zen and why it's become my go-to.

New post on my website!

Web Browser Recommendations

Vivaldi, Orion, Waterfox and Zen are my current favorites. I like Firefox, but I'm not so sure about Mozilla these days. Safari's OK. LibreWolf and IronFox are good for everyday privacy, Tor for advanced scenarios. Falkon and Dillo are good for slow hardware.
