Idol, Burning by Rin Usami and translated into English by Asa Yoneda is a novella about obsession and mental health. The teenage narrator and online slang made this translation a challenge that I think Yoneda handles fantastically.

The theme is change. Our #worldlit spotlight heads to Australia to explore James Bradley's novels dealing with who we are and how we navigate #climate change. I also cover some new ecofiction and talk about my monthly book rec, Steph Jagger's memoir: Everything Left to Remember.

It's so interesting that people treat writers and translators so differently in North America.

Many of the modern #Chinese poets that I translate were #translators in their own right. Dai Wangshu translated literature from French into Chinese and Qiu Jin once translated a Japanese textbook for training nurses into Chinese. I can probably think of other examples.

Translation has always been valued as an important art.
