Of course I only had my phone with me today but still fantastic to see the Dipper and some Tree sparrows on my walk today!

Pictures show tree sparrow deep in a Bush and dipper on a very flooded river.

Shhh 👆

The title is from the punchline of an old joke that I hardly remember. There is an outside chance somebody will get it.

I took this photo about an hour ago. I haven't posted one of these for a few days So here is a photo of a turkey vulture flying overhead. I like the detail in this photo.

"The Turkey Vulture uses its sense of smell to locate carrion. The part of its brain responsible for processing smells is particularly large, compared to other birds. Its heightened ability to detect odors—it can detect just a few parts per trillion—allows it to find dead animals below a forest canopy. The Turkey Vulture maintains stability and lift at low altitudes by holding its wings up in a slight dihedral (V-shape) and teetering from side to side while flying. It flies low to the ground to pick up the scent of dead animals." - allaboutbirds.org

This is a pretty clear image of a turkey vulture flying from left to right in the photograph. Its face isa pale red, I can see its large nostril up behind its short curved pale ivory beak. Its right red eye is visible with a large black pupil. The texture around the eye is ruff making it look old or worn. Yellowish white wing feathers extend back from its dark wing arms and there is a feather missing midway across its right wing.

"Turkey Vultures appear black from a distance but up close are dark brown with a featherless red head and pale bill. While most of their body and forewing are dark, the undersides of the flight feathers (along the trailing edge and wingtips) are paler, giving a two-toned appearance." - allaboutbirds.org

@mjohanning They're gorgeous ducks and I'm sure you'll get a better shot next time you get the opportunity.

Any shots I get like that I call them proof shots. It's at least proof I saw the bird ☺️

@BirdsinLatin cracker of a shot! ☺️

We didn't see too many birds on our walk today, unfortunately — and those that we did see were quite far away.

We did however see this rather ambitious squirrel carrying what looks like could be nesting material!

We are bright and sunny this morning in spite of all the snow we've had. The little birds are singing and our lovely, noisy rooks are still busy nest building.

I thought this one looked quite regal this morning. Perched in the tree, surveying his/ her kingdom.

More fisheye experiments from last month (precisely a month ago, actually).

I really like these shots (especially the first one!), but getting them involved depositing the seeds in sort of a corner, which led the pigeons to contend for them a bit too vigorously for me to feel alright about doing this, so I won't revisit this kind of photography anytime soon.

Fisheye (and black-and-white) shot of multiple pigeons eating seeds. One pigeon almost towers over the others, wings outstretched, trying to get to the food. The same shot, a second later, slightly less dramatic-looking but the pigeons are more expressive here.Another shot, the pigeons have gotten a bit closer. And another one.

@walken They really are so funny to watch. So smart and so odd all in one!

Excellent job getting the focus right through the branches by the way ☺️

A gosling, afraid of me, ran to mama's protection & hides under her wing...and then peeks out from under to see me. 🙂 ❤️

Hopefully, it will be the last snow we get. Although it's beautiful.. at some point we're longing for Spring.
Will make it easier for this #EurasianBlueTit to find its food.

Tear it up and throw it away 🤣. This rook spent ages trying to find what must have been the best piece of moss.

Eventually found a bit and flew off but that was some serious searching it did! I could watch these guys for hours, they're such characters ☺️.

Awful video but I was very happy to see this Rook collecting moss for its nest this morning. I'll edit the couple of photos and post them soon ☺️

Just discovered #SheepOfMastodon so I'm giving it a go with an old photo!

Six lambs standing on a hill. They are very close to the camera, on a skyline and with the sun shining from the rear to give a rim lighting effect.

I'm just having the worst luck at the moment. Either the weather is terrible or the birds I'm looking for aren't there 🤣. Can't complain too badly, it's still gorgeous out and about.

Instead of the birds i grabbed a few shots of my gorgeous boy Echo. I may be biased but he is amazing and the best photography buddy 😍
