You've made it out of January! Congratulations.

Your reward is to enjoy these photos I shot yesterday around the limestone pavements beneath Ingleborough, in the Yorkshire Dales. Aren't you lucky?

If you're vaguely near Glencoe, it's nigh impossible to resist the pull of Glencoe.

But, on this occasion, we made sure to explore other aspects near Glencoe we'd previously glossed over, such as Rannoch Moor's lochs and upper Glencoe. 👍

A captivating autumnal scene at River Coupall near Glencoe, with the iconic Buachaille Etive Mor mountain dominating the background. In the foreground, a cascading waterfall tumbles over rugged rocks, its white water contrasting sharply with the surrounding autumn-hued vegetation. Golden-leaved trees frame the scene, their branches reaching towards a vibrant blue sky dotted with wispy clouds. The river winds through the rocky terrain, leading the eye towards the imposing pyramid-shaped peak of Buachaille Etive Mor, its grey, craggy face a stark contrast to the warm colours of the Highland landscape. A section of the lovely but neglected red brick one-story flat-roofed Bank of Magdalena building in Magdalena, New Mexico. The top and doorways feature cornices and part of the building has been painted white which is now fading. The scene has a desaturated rose feel due to the expanse of red brick and rose-tinted road running in front of it. The deep blue sky is completely clear. The facade of a narrow dark red brick building in Cleveland, North Dakota. Almost square, but the upper right corner cuts down roughly, as if part of it is broken off. Much of the side is taken up by what appears to be an old dock door, but which has been boarded over with wood of a similar tone to the brickwork. A normal-sized white door has been set at the edge of that, a bit right of the center of the wall, and a single tall window with green trim sits to the right of that. Above the dock door space is a wide, fading sign identifying this as "Cloveland Grocery", with Coca-Cola logos as endcaps on both sides. The facade of a faded pinkish boarded-up two-story wooden building in Cleveland, North Dakota. The steeply-pitched roof peaks at the ridge in the center. At ground level a small portico, also with pitched roof, protects double doors. The pale sidewalk and street run in front of the building at an obvious slope.

Up early to help with turtle patrol, Orange Beach, Alabama, in May of this year. #LifeguardTower #OrangeBeachAL #SilentSunday
In dim, pre-dawn light, a small white lifeguard tower sits on an empty white beach, facing mostly away from the viewer, towards the dark, calm open water beyond. The sky is dark blue and largely featureless. The lifeguard tower has the number 4 on its sides; the one on the back with a reddish glint due to a bit of light reflecting from somewhere.

Exploring and camping at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, Texas in April of this year. #EnchantedRock
A close view looking up the steep slope of a pink granite dome with no plant growth except a small patch of bush or tree limbs poking over the top at one point. The surface is pocked with many small damp depressions. The curve of the top of the dome is clearly visible running across the frame, with a few figures at the top, appearing small along a horizon of large puffy clouds covering most of the pale blue sky. From near the top of the pink granite dome, the surface has many shallow pools of water. The view is to the side, with the dome curving gently down from left to right, revealing a hazy flat green landscape with a line of ridges in the distance.A close-up of a steep curve on the pink granite dome revealing a large rock knob nearby, also of pink granite but sporting a number of trees climbing up the base.A view of the dome from near the base, with a small figure at the bottom and a number of tiny people climbing or at the top revealing some scale of the dome.

Thanks. Yeah, so many wildflowers. I was told at a visitor center that the road department seeds flowers along the roads in that area, so not entirely wild per se. But far more pleasant than many smaller roads that I'm used to, and there were lots of flowers in the park as well. I was at Enchanted Rock the next day, which was very cool. (Those photos up next in the queue.)

Viewing April's total solar eclipse from a hike-in primitive camping spot in Texas. The forecast was for complete cloud cover the entire region, and early morning was indeed cloudy, but then it mostly cleared. There was some cloud intrusion, but mostly the eclipse was very visible. #SolarEclipse #SolarEclipse2024
A 3-by-3 grid of the eclipse's progression. The top and bottom rows are of the moon moving over and then away from the sun, respectively, and are orange due to the filter needed to protect from the sun. The middle row is of totality and did not need the filter; these shots show the moon's black silhouette with a white halo from the sun's corona, and several pinkish solar prominences dotting the edge. Several of the photos show signs of partial cloud cover.A arid scene of pale rocky ground, numerous small yellow flowers, and low-lying prickly-pear cactus pads, surrounded by trees of various shades of green.A wooden bench sits in a scene of low grass, prickly-pear cactus pads, and blue-purple flowers, along with some bushes and then a line of somewhat scraggly trees. A variety of short trees of different heights and shades of green surround the meadow.

A US flag flutters beside Tawas Point Lighthouse, a conical lighthouse tower of white-painted brick and attached cottage of unpainted reddish brick and a red roof. The tower, built in 1853, is 67 feet tall, around six stories or so. The entire structure looks immaculate and well-maintained.Sturgeon Point Lighthouse, a Cape Cod style Great Lakes lighthouse built in 1869. A 71 foot tall conical tower with an attached structure, all of which is brick with red trim, and a greyish shingle roof on the smaller structure. While the base structure looks well-maintained, the tower itself is a bit weathered with uneven paint. A US flag at the base is dwarfed by the tower.New Presque Isle Light, built in 1870. The 113 foot tower with attached residence is white-painted brick with dark green trim, and it looks very well kept.A steep view up the conical white limestone tower of Marblehead Lighthouse, built in 1822. The lantern trim is a rich red. There are three green-trimmed windows visible on the tower. The two lower ones are framed with unpainted brick to set them perpendicular to the ground. The upper one does not need this as it is in a short section which is not tapered. The lighthouse looks well-maintained.
