In about 2003 we bought a heavily used #Concept2 #rowing machine from a community gym for, I think, $150. It is a Model B that was manufactured in 1992.

Concept2 STILL provides COMPLETE #SUPPORT AND REPLACEMENT #PARTS for a 30 year old rowing machine. They still sell upgrades to the electronics. They have never end-of-lifed it. They also provide complete support for even older Model A machines.

I have almost total confidence that that will not be the case for your #Peloton, etc.

This cover highlights the article E‐cadherin mediates apical membrane initiation site localisation during de novo polarisation of epithelial cavities by Xuan Liang, Clare E Buckley and colleagues. During epithelial polarisation of embryonic stem cells, the site of apical membrane initiation is defined by E‐cadherin mediated cell adhesion independently of cell division. Image shows chimeric cell doublets and epithelial cysts labelled with E‐cadherin in Magenta, F‐actin in blue and PAR‐3 in green. Only doublets with E‐cadherin in both cells form a PAR‐3 positive AMIS. Whilst epithelial cysts expressing E‐cadherin formed lumens via hollowing, those without E‐cadherin formed lumens via folding.

Introduction
My name is Chris and I am the Glycomics Core Director at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School, Boston Massachusetts. I use mass spectrometry as the primary detection method for released glycans and glycoconjugates. There is still a lot to learn in the glycosciences so an unbiased technique like mass spec is my favorite tool. #TeamMassSpec #Glycotime

Musk’s anti-Fauci tweet is my breaking point; leaving the other app behind so might as well do an #introduction!

I’m an Associate Professor of #Immunology at the #UniversityofWashington in Seattle. My lab studies programmed cell death in the context of cancer, infection and autoimmunity. Check out OberstLab.org for more info.

Outside the lab, I spend as much time as I can outdoors: Biking, rock climbing, hiking and #birding with my wife and our Irish Water Spaniel Rufus. What a good boy!

I have created a group @strucbio .

If you tag this account in any relevant toot, it will automatically boost it.

So if you follow this account, any toots about structural biology should end up in your TL. The more people use it, the better it will be.

Boosting appreciated. :protein:

Here is one of my favorite papers this year, on how the ribosome holds the growing protein nascent chain near the peptidyl transferase center (PTC). nature.com/articles/s41557-022
Not only great science but great people behind the science. #Ribosome #StructuralBiology

Two panels from the paper. Top, rRNA nucleotides H-bond to the protein nascent chain backbone, not the side chains. Bottom, the protein nascent chain in this region adopts the same ā€œzig-zagā€ conformation leading to the C-terminus, regardless of the amino acid sequence.

I am interested in using #NMR to understand biology, so my work varies from #biophysics #kinetics #dynamics #proteinfolding to #structuralbiology

An example of our collaborations, with @ak947 and @lapassmore where we showed that Fip1 dynamics are required for CPF activation. NMR was used to study the conformational dynamics of Fip1 within the 850-kDa CPF complex.
