🇬🇧 Back from an archaeological expedition in Albania. The excavation camp is located at an altitude of 700 metres in the Koman region. Up at 4:30 a.m. to avoid the 40° heatwave. On the program: pebble gardening, coloring, petules and other precious archaeological materials are extracted from the tombs.

It's been 10 years since I haven't been back here, and I can tell you that, despite the lack of extra-activities - indeed, there's no pony or swimming pool on offer in the afternoons!

New findings in and phys.org?

I'm neither an , nor an engineer, but assuming that the the peer-reviewed article on phys.org does not omit any central aspects of the study in , it seems 👉rather narrow-minded in geographic and historic scope.👈

I found this post about mastodon on Mastodon(!) Mastodon were cousins to elephants & wooly mammouth, and lived among hoo-mans 13K years ago (relatively recently). NY state is home to 150 mastodon fossil discoveries, w/ 1/3 in Orange County, where these teeth etc were found.

Yellowmead stone circle near Sheepstor in Devon, England is a concentric Bronze Age stone circle consisting of four stone rings set into each other. The largest is 20 meters wide and the smallest 6 meters. It is located on Yellowmead Down.

The circles once surrounded a burial mound, although this is now barely visible. To the south-west some possible rows of stones branch off, crossed by a post-medieval leat that once served a nearby tin works.

The site was excavated and restored by Rev. H Breton in 1921. In 2008, geophysical surveys and a small excavation were carried out to determine if the 1921 restoration had been done accurately (it was) and to find out if they were buried additional elements in the peat. Fallen stones were found in line with some of the stone rows, suggesting that further features may lie downstream below the slope.

"American dies after ship replica capsizes off "

Those who wielded were masters but many died pushing the edge of discovery. So a sad modern coda

"Thrilled to be a part of this crew, fearlessly embarking on this Nordic voyage on a Viking ship replica across the North Sea, pushing through physical and mental limits to sail into history"

- Karla Dana, 29

I hope she is in on the greatest of discovery

5000 years ago, the Neolithic people of Dartmoor cut this 27 feet high standing stone from granite where The Oxenham Arms is now located.

The pub was built around it when it was a monastery around 800 years ago, the stone goes down into the cellar & up into the room above.

Fascinating. I'm not sure if this will get me to watch the , but it's nice to see that some smart peeps gird their loins and speak up about some of the lunacy that's being brought by disturbingly popular pseudo-archeologists like and his noisome ilk. In this case it's a gloriously named real named Dr. Flint Dibble. Turns out that Hancock's nonsense helps make their dangerous claims. boingboing.net/2024/04/19/arch

Flirt with #archeologist:
Hey, you wouldn't have a ziggurat?

2023-09-20

I'm pretty sure no archeologist has taken a look at this. Do they have an issue with my *disfavored* spelling?

How about colour?

Or favour?

Or saviour?

Or vitamin... Wait... that's spelled the same, I just pronounce it the British way.

"But archeologist is not a Brit..."

Shut up!!!!!!

Did they just preemptively block me? 😭

This “#archeology junkie”(that’s a great band name😎) is vibrating w/excitement!
Talk about “salt of the earth”!

Remarkable work…
Requirements to be an #archeologist
* Observant
* Precise
* Fearless
* Obsessed

Anyone who knows, loves or is related to one…will agree.
Some may say, I neglected to pt-out…”Bat-Shit Crazy”!
To them I say…
It’s not a requirement…just a common characteristic.🥸

Due to me using a "disfavored" spelling, I think the archaeologists have perhaps not seen this yet.

(For the record, #archeologist is accepted, but my dictionaries prefer #archaeologist.)

Note that the following contains scatological humor. Don't play it in a departmental meeting... or maybe do play it... It really depends on your department. :derpface:

The description goes: A student of ancient English is being tutored by someone who really shouldn't be tutoring anyone.

@TeamMidwest Anyone reading this, please remember to also include the year in long form (2023 as opposed to -23) because while it’s obvious to YOU, now, I can promise you that the #archeologist staring at it 200 years into the future will NOT automatically know on which century you wrote it.

Always write #metadata on papers, documents, art etc. with the assumption that a future archeologist will see it.
