I have been on Reddit for awhile now, and I am a member of the Blind subreddit, among several others. There is nothing wrong with it, but it is a support community and often has negative/depressing posts that I cannot relate to, always having been blind. So I created my own subreddit with a far more positive angle, where we could discuss a wider range of things, not just related to blindness, and where we can promote and sell products, and even write dating posts! You cannot do any of that in the regular one, and I have seen decent posts asking genuine questions or offering completely legal and helpful services removed for this reason. Below is the description and the link. Please feel free to share this and join us if you wish.

This is a subreddit for those who are blind or visually impaired , but it does not focus exclusively on blindness and it is not a therapy, medical, or support group. It is a place for us to relax and get to know each other. Please only join if you are eighteen or older.

A few counterarguments on #LocalMess (#Facebook #Instagram #Yandex #LocalhostTracking), why this would make #Android worse than #iOS:

This vuln seems to only have existed on Android, but not everyone would need to be affected by it.

I see #GrapheneOS as a perfected form of the Android idea (stripping the #Advertizing and Tracking from it, and adding needed permissions).

Happy Monday, all! New #InTheKaleidoscope podcast episode (Ep. 9) dropped this morning.

We have this great podcast producer who writes the introductory copy, so here's how she summarized it!

"In this insightful episode of "In the Kaleidoscope," Laura and Carrie explore the complexities of lying from both neurodivergent and neurotypical perspectives. Laura shares experiences with the concept of absolute truth and how Laura's autistic brain perceives reality, while Carrie reflects on her journey through advertising and the art of truth-telling. Together, they delve into the nuances of subjective reality, the impact of context on truth, and the challenges of understanding and detecting lies. This episode provides a deep dive into the multifaceted nature of truth and the importance of empathy in communication."

Sounds fancy, doesn't it? LOL. It's really just the two of us talking. Let me know what you think if you give it a listen.

There's no way ad-funded platforms can seriously promise to help rid the world of disinformation. Because marketing (advertising and PR) *is* professional disinformation. If that's what's paying the bills, you're part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Meet the man who influenced your entire breakfast this morning

"The most interesting man in the advertising world was named Albert Lasker. He lived from 1880 until 1952.

The brands he helped launch nearly 100 years ago are still with us today."

@mrcompletely Fediverse norms are really fluid. We don't see your posts because some algorithm thinks we want it. We see your post because someone we follow boosted it, or because we follow you. If I follow someone who posts too much of something I don't want in my feed, I can ask if they might do content wrappers (CW) before I decide to not follow any more, or mute them for a while. It's just people to people and we figure it out. Find the way, then lead!

Anyone who still thinks selling audiences to advertisers is a viable way to fund media businesses in the digital age, please read this thread, starting here:

Ads aren't going away (sadly) and there are some niche cases where they still work. But the results are mostly bad for society (eg FarceBook and Titter). Time to get creative folks.
