This episode could have easily gone into my Audio Signals Podcast, where I talk about Stories, Storytelling, and Storytellers—I debated that… and as a matter of fact, I may just put it there too. But in the end, I decided to feature it on Redefining #Society & #Technology because it’s about #space, the Apollo Program, #engineering, recognition, #equality, and, ultimately, the #history of our society.

🚀 LA Made : The Other Moonshot | The story of three Black aerospace engineers in Los Angeles, who played a crucial role in America’s race to space, amid the civil unrest of the 1960s | Guest: Joanne Higgins

The Apollo #moonlanding was one of humanity’s greatest achievements—but behind the scenes, not everyone who made it possible was given their due credit. LA Made: The Other Moonshot, a new podcast from LAist Studios, tells the untold story of three Black aerospace engineers in #LosAngeles who played a critical role in the Apollo mission—while fighting for equality and recognition in an industry that barely acknowledged them.

I sat down with host Joanne Higgins to talk about why she set out to tell this story. Her godfather, Charlie Cheathem, was one of these unsung pioneers, but his contributions—like those of many Black engineers—were left out of history. |

As Joanne explains, these men didn’t just face the immense challenge of building the Apollo spacecraft; they also had to fight for the right to do their jobs, to be paid equally, and to have their work recognized.

Some of the very systems they helped design made the moon landing possible, yet their names were left off the credits. It’s a story of resilience, injustice, and ultimately, a legacy that deserves to be told.

The image is a black and white photograph featuring three men dressed in suits, standing closely together with smiles on their faces.
They are positioned in front of what appears to be a wall or panel with some text on it.
One man is wearing glasses, suggesting he might have vision issues.
All three men seem to be looking directly at the camera, creating a sense of connection and camaraderie between them.

#retrogaming #retrocomputing #apollomission #lunarlander #moonlander youtube.com/watch?v=8r0r6JnBOr

: Crescent Earth

This view of a crescent Earth as seen beyond the limb of the Moon was captured from inside the Apollo 16 CSM "Casper" in lunar orbit on April 24, 1972. This version is cropped and processed from NASA image # AS16-122-19564.
