My two decades of reporting and advocacy for climate action gave me some initial critical skills. Enough to ask a question on urban heat impact when the Sports Surface Needs Analysis with a pipeline of 8 synthetic projects was considered by Merr-bek Council in February 2018. The proposal to convert a sports oval in Coburg North in October 2020 was the catalyst for me to do a deep dive in a science based literature review published in April 2021. That oval conversion was stopped, in part due to the community campaign, but also because of the information on the environmental, health, climate and biodiversity impacts that I revealed..
